After getting tired of princes and princesses and cheesy routines, sometimes gothic or dark fairy tales are chic and eye-catching.
This movie was originally changed from a fairy tale. The art production is very good, both the scene and the shape are impeccable, and the poster is also amazing. The actors are very powerful, and there are so many who stand out, which adds a lot to the movie.
It can be seen that it may be due to limited funds, and the special effects part are not too large or large, but the production is still very delicate and has a dark fairy tale atmosphere. It is a pity that the structure of the story is a little weaker, the connection in some places is rather blunt, the ending is a little rushed, and the explanation is not perfect.
For example, did the prince go back after killing the monster and didn't find that the queen was missing? For example, a king who is so obsessed with fleas and ignores his daughter, why would he suddenly cry to his daughter and confess his mistakes? There is no foreshadowing in the middle, and the transformation is too abrupt. In the end, the ambitious old woman just grew old slowly, and then ran away... The three stories are told in parallel, without any interspersed, just "forcibly" gathered together at the end of the story, but still lacks the overall feeling.
Another remarkable thing is the acting skills of the actors. There are the following ones that I think are very good: the first is the queen. From the initial paranoid desire for children, to the almost suffocating domineering possessiveness, all of them are full of tension. However, in addition, it is very real, she shows a mother's deepest and tenderest love and dependence on her son, which is deplorable.
The second is the younger sister among the old sisters. (Actually, the older sister is also a good actor.) In just a few dozen seconds, the sisters' respective personality differences are vividly interpreted. The greedy ambition of the elder sister, the kindness and promise of the younger sister. My sister contributed two parts of the movie that shocked me the most. One was that she told her younger sister that she didn’t want to be alone, but wanted to be with her; When his own skin is like a girl's anxiety and expectation. Especially in the last scene of blood dripping towards the castle, her eyes are pure and empty, as if full of sadness, but also full of hope, which is heartbreaking.
It can be said that there are several actors who performed extremely well, which added a lot to the film. But this movie still has flaws in his plot. If the first two stories are about human nature, the princess's story feels a little confusing. The king was obsessed with fleas and insisted on marrying the princess to a savage, but he repented inexplicably afterwards. The savage married the princess through the king's promise and contract. Apart from his primitive way of life, he didn't seem to be sorry for her. And the princess is obviously very distressed and can be said to be a victim. However, due to the image of the savage and some logical problems set by the king, the moral of the story is somewhat ambiguous.
Excellent fairy tales, whether it is "The Daughter of the Sea", "Beauty and the Beast", or "The Little Match Girl"... all use simple stories and beautiful tones to convey clear meanings and values, and inspire and reflect role, which is relatively lacking in this film. In addition to the balance of life and death emphasized by the wizard, the story of the princess can only be forcibly understood as karma? In particular, the completeness of the story is not enough, the logic is lacking, it is not interspersed in layers, and the intention is not clear enough. There are many disputes in many places, and it can only be guessed.
But overall, it's still worth seeing.
