I watched another Ghibli cartoon. I watched this cartoon with a high fever, which was 38.9 degrees.
The movie is very long, almost two hours. It describes the story of a group of civet cats fighting against humans in order to defend their homeland.
From my point of view, the plot is very general, just plain and straightforward, and there are not many twists in the story. The ending is rather sad.
After all, civet cats cannot defeat humans.
The story is nothing more than about the development of human beings, destroying the environment, and telling people to cherish nature.
The interesting part is the part where the tanuki transforms into a ghost and goes on a parade, which is very interesting. It is very admirable that Takahata is able to come up with so many changes.
I don't know this story, is there a corresponding legend in Japan?
When I was watching this cartoon, I was so sick to death, the fever made my muscles ache, it was so painful.

I watched it many times, some laughing, some crying, and all tastes for yourself. Old man Gong’s old film is still that old topic, the contradiction between human beings and nature. Humans use a lot of land and occupy the living space of civet cats. In order to survive, the civet cat began to retaliate against mankind with ever-changing means. There are many weird but ridiculous plots. In the end, the civet cat failed and could only become a human form and lurking in the human life.

Should this be a happy or sad story? Even a country like Japan that is very ceremonial in protecting the ecological environment will look at its past in this way, so should China be ashamed? The parade of the raccoons is really wonderful, so great~

Pom Poko quotes

  • Ponkichi: If we get rid of all the humans, that means... we'll never eat tempura again! Or beef jerky! Or popcorn.

Tanuki: Hamburgers! Donuts! Potato chips! Pepperoni pizza! Chicken wings!

[Gonta is moved by this. His eyes tear and his mouth waters]

    Gonta: I can taste it!

Seizaemon: So, then, do you think it would be alright if we kept a few humans around, Gonta?

Gonta: [wiping the saliva from his mouth] We have no choice.

  • Shokichi: Master, would you re-enact the tale of the young samurai who shot the fan?

Hage: Ah. I'll need some help.

[He transforms into Nasu no Yoichi. He flies towards the crowd. Gonta's eyes bulge as he realizes that Master Hage is homing in on him. The crowd of tanuki scramble. Master Hage lands on Gonta and clings to his back. The Taka tanuki struggles, then hops around on all fours and turns into a horse. Hage rides around the clearing. Water seems to flood into the clearing, and Master Hage rides Gonta into it. Before them is an image of the sea, and three boats. One of the boats has the image of a woman standing on the bow of the boat and a fan on the top of the mast. Hage draws a bow and shoots the fan, sending it flying into the air]
