This is a tragic story told from Tanuki's point of view. The civet cats in the film are cute, honest and clumsy, sometimes feeling amazingly clever and witty, but often unable to make wise choices; prone to anger, a bit stubborn, and seems to be more than any creature. Covet the beauty and pleasure of nature, are easy-going.
Civet cats, there are reasons for them to live freely and happily in the woods.
The problem is that humans also seem to have a reason to raze the woods and build residential areas.
The biggest problem is that in the face of human society, raccoon's innocence and intelligence, stubbornness and hard work, all will not work - in the face of people, raccoon is weak.
So the weak have no choice but to change their own way of life - in the way of death, or transform, or endure.
There is nothing to do, but...
Fortunately, there is this "Heisei Tanuki War", some people sigh for them, and some people can think about: what role do we humans play in the face of nature. And maybe, what role should be played.
