Old ghost in the new city

The story of Vertigo takes place in San Francisco, California, a symbol of American modernization. But under the railway of Jinshan, there are Chinese blood and tears, the ghosts of the gold rush wandering, the emerging city is built on the corpses of the old city, and the opening liar and the old friend of the male protagonist talk about the change of San Francisco.
The old world was preserved by the residents of the new city, and a memorial church was built intact on the outskirts. The hero and heroine in the dense forest saw two thousand-year-old trees. This number is not only incredible to the people of this country and city, it is almost as long as death.

In Psycho, men’s obsession with women’s clothing becomes more morbid in Vertigo. Men ask new couples to wear old clothes. The deceived woman hopes to regain the love of men with her true colors, so she compromises and even dyes her hair. But the man didn't fall into madness, he got insight into the whole fake plan from the recurring necklace.

Hitchcock is good at making a sham shot, and the secrets of the public and silver in Psycho, including the sensitive road policeman, are completely sham. The corset designer in Vertigo who has a crush on the male protagonist is an extremely minor character. Because of jealousy and complaint, he has no curiosity, but is very cute. He puts his face wearing glasses on the body of a woman that the male protagonist likes. All the girls who have not been involved in the world will do, and there are many such girls in Jin Yong's writings. That reincarnation story is also very distracting, but it reminds me by accident that even San Francisco is so young and so new and has historical debts. The ghost of premodernism is shrouded in the prosperous and modern United States in the late 1950s like Psycho.

Vertigo quotes

  • Midge: [to Scottie] For a man who has nothing to do, you're certainly a busy little bee.

  • Midge: It's wonderful how they've got it all taped now, John. They've got music for dipsomaniacs, and music for melancholiacs, and music for nymphomaniacs. I wonder what would happen if somebody got their files mixed up?
