It was three o'clock in the morning after watching "British Showdown". I lay on my bed and posted it to Moments, recommending this film, and then fell asleep deeply.

I woke up at nine o'clock in the morning, turned on the phone, and posted a message in Moments before going to bed, saying that the film looked boring. I smiled at the phone and thought to myself, this kind of non-linear narrative film must not be used by many people. But no matter what, I like Jackie Chan’s movie very much. It breaks Jackie Chan’s image as a tough guy again. Even in the movie, he does not appear as a main role, but as a supporting role interspersed in this movie. The theme of the movie is still about political struggles. .

I applaud the movie, but still think the story is good. The stories to be told in two hours, if not detailed, include the following: the whole story and the process of solving the case (this is the main line), Jackie Chan’s family background and birth, the struggle between governments, the roots of the evil forces, and the various factors in between. This kind of game, in addition to the relationship between men and women and various tactics. In the process of advancing the whole story, how to intensively tell such a complicated story in 2 hours. The director used two methods. One is a dual-time narrative approach, one line for Jackie Chan and one line for the government. The two lines sometimes cross and sometimes separate. This method of storytelling is not only used when making movies, but also when writing novels and press releases. Of course, not only in this movie, Ang Lee's "Billy Lynn's Intermission" is also a dual-time narrative technique. The advantage of this operation is that it looks like a story, within a fixed timeline, the plot doubles, and the viewing time doubles. So viewers need to be highly concentrated to keep up with the plot.

Using dual timelines will make the story fuller and more specific. One problem is that if there are too many story lines, many of them cannot be unfolded. This is the case with the characters and story lines involved in this movie, so we need to use another method to tell the story: to restore the story completely through the dialogue of the actors. The single-character dialogue explained Jackie Chan's character background, the root cause of the explosion, why this explosion occurred, and so on. These plots were not filmed in the movie, and they were all told by the actors' lines. Good lines and scripts are like this. In addition to talking to movie characters, the characters also need to convey corresponding information to the audience, and more importantly, promote the development of the plot.

At this point, it should almost be able to explain why this movie is good. However, this is not enough. In addition to the intensive storytelling, the filming style of the whole film is also very stable. The coldness and killing atmosphere, the coldness in the air and the gloomy and resentment of the characters are intertwined, and it is perfect. Interpretation of what is called a good commercial film.

I have to say that Jackie Chan's transformation was a huge success. After watching this movie, my first impression was that Jackie Chan was just right. Although this was not the first time he played his father, he played it very seriously this time, especially the kind of old lady who walked and looked so old from the back. Not to mention his age, he can still slide down the iron rod from the roof. When fighting with special forces in the jungle, come to a carp to fight (this plot is a bit fake, although it has been prepared before). There are not many people who can achieve this kind of energy.

As for the Internet, the box office of Jackie Chan’s movie is not as high as abroad, so I can only hehe. Think about it, isn’t the box office of Ang Lee’s movie like that? The vast majority of people have no self-awareness about the quality of a movie, and they are discussing it on the two levels of being able to read and not being able to understand. This is like when many people look at a painting, the criterion for judging it is not to discuss what the painter is painting, why it is painted like this, why what you see is different from mine, etc. They just keep trying to get to the destination. After all, whether it's watching movies or paintings, that destination is just a secondary position, and the most important thing is the process. What are you doing eagerly.

The Foreigner quotes

  • Liam Hennessy: You killed my dog.

Quan Ngoc Minh: Dog's fine. Just sleeping.

  • Quan Ngoc Minh: [opens coat] I'm wearing a bomb. Anyone comes in, I touch it one, then we die. Now, give me the names.

Liam Hennessy: They claim to be IRA, but I don't know who they really are. I'm doin' everything I can to find out who's responsible.

Quan Ngoc Minh: [puts gun to Hennessy's head] You're lying! Who killed my daughter?

Liam Hennessy: I'm sorry! I truly don't know yet!

Quan Ngoc Minh: [pause] The explosive the bombers use, it's Semtex-H?

Liam Hennessy: [nervous] Yes. Yes. You know about Semtex?

Quan Ngoc Minh: I know Semtex-H. During the war Czechs make for the army. Good for bombs and traps.

    Liam Hennessy: In Vietnam?

Quan Ngoc Minh: Yes. Many American people died by Semtex-H. Now, IRA use to kill my daughter. That's ironic.

Liam Hennessy: I've read your history. We both know about war. We've both tried to put it behind us. You and me, we're alike.

Quan Ngoc Minh: [backhands Hennessy in the face] We are NOTHING alike. You're NOTHING! You kill women and children! NAMES!

Liam Hennessy: To Almighty God, I don't know!

Quan Ngoc Minh: [cocks the gun]

Liam Hennessy: WAIT! Wait! I've set a trap for them when they use the next bomb. When they claim responsibility for the next bombing, they'll use a code word, telling the police they're IRA. I've changed that code word. So when they use it, I'll know.

Quan Ngoc Minh: [lowers the gun] You have one day.

Liam Hennessy: ...what if they don't set off a bomb by then?

    Quan Ngoc Minh: Twenty-four hours.

    [leaves]

Liam Hennessy: ...Jesus. Oh, Jesus, sweet Jesus.
