A different era, a generation killed

I recommend a classic German drama "Our Fathers" that I've been watching recently. There are three episodes in total, and each episode is about an hour and a half. The five protagonists are friends who grew up in Berlin and talked about everything. The play starts in 1941, and the background is on the eve of the outbreak of the Soviet-German war. In the face of such "a different era" (that is, the title of the first episode of the play, Eine Andere Zeit), five friends have made their own choices. , and have since moved to a different trajectory of destiny.

The whole show is so meticulous in its polishing of historical details and war scenes, each shot has its own unique charm and (in a sense cruel) beauty - so that the viewer has every second of it. The urge to take a screenshot. What touched me the most in the whole play was the change of people's hearts under the war, which can also be said to be the destruction of life and people's hearts by war. : Greta, who has always wanted to become a star, sold her body to save her Jewish boyfriend Viktor for the sake of her own future and became the mistress of a high-ranking SS officer, and through him step by step to become prosperous and rich- —At the same time, it also got deeper and deeper, and was eventually arrested and shot for making remarks against the Nazi government; the male protagonist’s younger brother Friedhelm, who was a young man who loved history and philosophy, opposed war and refused to kill, but because of repeated Desperate and gradually blackened, he became a murderer without blinking an eye. However, at a critical moment, he still chose to kill his superior (the captain of the SS commando who once executed a Jewish girl in front of him) in order to save his friend. Three days before the end of the war, in order to keep the Boy Scouts who followed him alive (and also to make them realize the cruelty of the war and give up resistance), he rushed to the Soviet positions alone and died generously.

The play also expresses a profound anti-war theme through the shaping of various characters in the war environment. Wilhelm, the protagonist of the second lieutenant officer, is a very calm and responsible elder in the play (the prototype is indeed the eldest of the five). On the one hand, he takes care of his younger brother, and on the other hand, he is worried about If he died in battle, his friend Charly, who had adored him for many years, would feel sad and desperate, and he would not confess. He continued to grow in the war, and finally woke up after his comrades fell down one by one - this war is meaningless, and said the most shocking lines in the whole play (at least I was most impressed): "The war The final victory is like flies, and we sacrifice our bodies for them."

All in all, this is the most shocking and realistic war work I've seen in years. The series is condensed, the plot is compact, and the overall workmanship is quite good. The characters are three-dimensional and full. While showing the warmth of human nature and the cruelty of war, there is no deliberately provocative anti-war preaching. The most important thing is that the film is adapted from the deeds of real people, which adds a bit of a strong historical touch. Needless to say, it is worth watching again and again!
