Antonioni is different from the general director who emphasizes the integrity of the story. He always guides us to discover what is behind it. Anna and her fiancé Sandro don't have many opportunities to meet each other. Anna said a word to Sandro on the island, which means: when we can't meet, we always eagerly expect to be together. When we are really together, I would rather stay alone. In fact, Anna has always been worried about this impending marriage, just as her father warned her in the opening scene: He will not marry you. In fact, Anna already harbored such unease. What is Anna's confusion? However, the director did not say it explicitly, but subtly took Anna out of the story suddenly, and the secret was revealed in the process of everyone looking for the missing Anna. Where did Anna go, it doesn't matter, what matters is the rest of the group, what Anna wants to "hide" is not a funny marriage, but the indifference, hypocrisy, and absurd reality that she cannot tolerate .
The story goes from the urgent search for Anna to the friends around her who fade out one by one. Although the two most important characters around her persisted, they developed into a not very romantic love. The process of searching for clues slowly. There is no important character Anna at the beginning of the film, and it will be mistaken for two people's vacation. There is a special prop in the film, which is the shirt that Anna gave her girlfriend Claudia on the boat. After Anna disappeared, Claudia put it on unintentionally, and then met Anna's father's suspicious or dull eyes. In fact, during this time Sandro has turned his attention from Anna to Claudia, and the silently scrutinizing eyes like this happened again later, but finally they did not stop their mistakes, and the director had to give Claudia a slap at the end, like Just like when he met Claudia and fell in love with Claudia, Sandro met and fell in love with another woman again at a banquet. The ending that the director arranged for the story was unexpected, I thought Claudia would disappear like Anna, but she hugged Sandro like a child who made a mistake and cried, and the two punished ended up snuggling together.
In a world that places too much emphasis on ego, neither loyal love nor pure friendship can occur. Anna is lonely, in fact, Claudia and Sandro are lonely after all.
