Richard himself chose how to die, at least, he was not directly killed by cancer.
Will the viewer feel a little gratified by this?
Maybe he just stayed in the mountains for a few days after the vehicle broke down, and finally went back hungry for treatment.
Maybe the director also hesitated for a long time, and he never figured out how to end the story. Should there be a scene of Richard's body at the end?
It is also possible that the director did not have this intention at all, and simply panned the camera to the starry sky and asked the viewer to meditate.
He could have chosen to go right or left, but he didn't. He chose to move forward because he knew that there was no way ahead. If Wayne Roberts had a more surreal style, it would have had Richard driving the car all the way to the skyline before disappearing into the stars.
