"What's wrong with people of the same blood getting together and playing games? Is that a sin?"
This is not only Sergeant Lee's dissatisfaction with the division of the North and the South, but also the author's dissatisfaction with the separation of the two Koreas, and the irony that the two countries are like enemies, unable to speak a word or contact.
The whole film expresses the friendship of the four people from North and South Korea, from Sergeant Wu to Sergeant Li to help Sergeant remove landmines and save his life. While hunting rabbits, the sergeants on both sides exchanged cigarettes. When the two sides stood guard, Sergeant Wu said, "Your shadow is out of bounds, be careful." Sergeant Li crossed the 38th parallel, and the four of them smoked in the basement like brothers and introduced their family members. Yet on both sides of a river. Obviously there is a bridge, but the two sides can not cross. Their friendship was destined to be a victim of politics, war. Panmunjom, this place is used to cover up the truth. In one sentence, the secret is broken, but it is full of ridicule, and he is obviously unwilling to fight, but he is wary. Obviously they are a compatriot, but they can't talk to each other.
"You have done a great thing. After half a century of division, you stopped our history of grief and shame and broke down barriers to unify the country"
A word from a North Korean soldier, how many people's hope and how many people's goal, this sentence is emphasized twice in the movie. The director used a humble soldier to unify the peninsula, expressing satire on those in power.
"Three minutes into a war, both countries will be destroyed and completely turned into ruins" This is also the reason for disgusting war. This film is nakedly an "anti-war film"
Regarding the shooting, the first shot by Sergeant Li should have been a subconscious shot. In the movie, it is repeatedly emphasized that he is a fast shooter. The quick gun of the quick shooter is subconscious, and it is the subconscious that has been trained countless times to shoot the target of North Korean soldiers. Sergeant Wu tried his best to protect Sergeant Li. Sergeant Li also died of remorse in the subconscious shot, but it is a pity that the families of both sides have become political victims.
The two photos at the end combine the fate of the four very well. Fate is such a joke, destined to be friends, but not destined to be friends. Three deaths and one injury seems to be a tragedy set by heaven.
The only flaw in the whole film that makes me feel uncomfortable is that the director is not completely neutral. Under the Korean censorship system, it is not impossible to be completely neutral. However, it is still an excellent Korean "anti-war" cold film.
