"Joint Security Zone" is a suspenseful Cold War movie directed by Park Chan-wook and starring Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Lee Young-ae, and Shin Ha-kyun. The film is based on the relationship between the North and the South on the Korean peninsula, and tells the story of the soldiers of the South and North Korea who developed from opposing garrison soldiers to friends but met each other. The film was released in South Korea on September 9, 2000. The film was nominated for the Golden Bear Award at the 51st Berlin International Film Festival with a dual narrative. A line revolves around the ins and outs of a gunfight between two North Korean soldiers and two South Korean soldiers. Another line, with the intervention of a Korean female investigator from a neutral country, takes the story into a more complicated situation. The most impressive thing is the last long shot of the movie. The smiles of the four people gradually appear in a photo. This scene is also known as "one of the top ten classic endings of Korean movies". In this shocking shot, history, country, individual, and destiny are subtly integrated into one photo. It takes the four people into the same time and space, not only to miss the friendship of the four people, but also to show their bloodline Not separated by a small threshold. The faint smiles on the corners of each of their mouths are even more beautiful expectations and yearnings for the peaceful coexistence of the North and the South.

Park Chan-wook's famous work before the "Vengeance Trilogy" wrote the mourning of ethnic division and political struggle with the underground friendship between the four soldiers guarding the common security area and the brutal ending of cannibalism. Hidden past events are presented only by the memories and speculations of various parties and third-party investigators, which can be regarded as a model of Rashomon-style narrative. At that time, Park Chan-wook's audio-visual style was not yet perfect, but many amazing matching transitions and metaphorical scenes (especially the playful spitting at the bridge of no return and the two group photos) were enough to make people applaud. Song Kanghao's character creation is very layered, but Lee Young-ae's performance is not outstanding, and the characters are relatively flat. The overall play is a bit too theme-first, and the credibility is somewhat lacking. (8.0/10)

No matter how docile beasts are, they have animal nature, and no matter how soft-handed soldiers are, they have killing intent. When friendship is cast a political shadow, it can only lead to tragedy...
