Optimism and pessimism are two worlds

The film selects four seasons of a year, revolving around a peaceful, optimistic, loving and humorous couple, who come and go with unhappy people around them. The couple has their own farming garden, regularly changing soil, sowing, harvesting, and picking. After decades of marriage, they are still as close and in love as young men and women in love.
The scene is more occupied by an elderly woman who is always anxious, flustered and pessimistic. A woman in her forties and fifties is as fragile and sensitive as a panicked child. She never leaves her mouth with alcohol and cigarettes without leaving her hands. She has no control over everything, especially Own. There are also old men with big belly, retirement, fear of getting old, and still lonely, who used to be a handsome guy. The husband's elder brother, a widower whose wife had just passed away, was treated with contempt and indifference by the only son.
At the end of the film, both optimistic and pessimistic people gather around the same table, enjoying the same delicious dinner, but with very different tastes. The pessimistic person on one side of the table looks at the happiness on the other side of the table like a wounded and overwhelmed child, unable to blend in. They lingered and envied outside, but continued to be closed in their own little world. What really entered their hearts was still only loneliness and their own sadness.

Another Year quotes

  • Tom: I seem to remember you got banned from a number of pubs in Hull for shouting about nothing when you were a young person.

Ken: [retelling the event] "Ken, we like you. You're a good bloke, you're good on the darts, but if you talk about politics again, you're barred!".

    [both burst into laughter]

  • Mary: But he wasn't a bad person. He loved me.

Tom: Sounds to me that he was a duplicitous shit.
