mirror of life

Life is a unified unit for everyone, and the time everyone has is as long as a lifetime. During this time, there are bound to be obstacles. There are family obstacles, friendship obstacles, and life obstacles. Running away from a problem is not the solution, because "life goes on, and you have to recognize it." There are many ways to live, and no matter which one you choose, the length of your life will not be extended. Therefore, when facing the mirror of life, you should choose the best posture and actively devote yourself to life.

Norman and Ethel are a loving couple, but there are still some flaws in their happy life - the relationship between their only daughter Chelsea and Norman has been a stalemate. After Norman's 80th birthday, Chesier took the initiative to communicate with his father. At the same time, Norman began to realize that he had lost a lot because he refused to accept his daughter's love. The father and daughter eventually became good friends.
The obstacle between Chelsea and Norman is not as serious as imagined, it's just that the two people always avoid each other's problem so it has not been resolved well. When Chelsea came to the Golden Pond again to pick up Billy home, he was surprised to find that Billy had become good friends with her father, who had never been able to get along well. In addition to the accident, she felt lost. Ethel was disappointed because of her daughter's misunderstanding of her husband. She slapped her daughter, but did not want to wake her up. Chelsea began to realize that the communication barrier with her father was not just her father's problem as she thought. Encouraged by her mother, Chelsea gathered the courage to go to her father and start talking to her father. Unexpectedly, not only did her father not ridicule her as usual, but instead congratulated Chelsea on getting married again. When Chesier tried his best to jump out of an unsightly backflip, the falling wall between father and daughter suddenly collapsed. "Life goes on, you have to recognize it." Life goes on and doesn't stop for anyone. All problems must be resolved before the end of life, otherwise it becomes a lifelong regret. Norman's life has not been lengthened by the change in his attitude towards life, but he has gained a lot from this change - a passion for life, an understanding of his daughter, and love.

In the eyes of his wife Ethel, Norman is an old man who cannot express his feelings, so he has been unable to improve his relationship with his daughter. Norman was old, he was 80 years old, and as he said, "I earn every day I live now." From the time they met, Norman was always talking about death. Now he is old, and is nearing the end of his life. Therefore, his attitude towards life is full of negativity. The view of the Golden Pond was beautiful, but Norman was always watching it all with dazed eyes. He has a bad memory, panicked as soon as he walked into the woods, and hurried back to their cabin, he began to escape from life. It was not until Chelsea brought Billy to visit that Norman, in order to be friendly with Billy, began to walk out of the cabin and take Billy to those activities he was once very familiar with. During the interaction with Billy, Norman gradually got rid of the negativity of life, and his confidence in life became more and more. He said to Billy: "We are only 67 years apart." The process of the two people from mutual dissatisfaction at the beginning to the final blending can be understood as the process of Norman's life attitude gradually changing from dark to sunshine. Billy was a child, so the breath of life emanating from him was exactly what Norman lacked.
In contrast to Norman, Ethel, a woman in her 60s, exudes youthful energy. She joked that she had met middle-aged couples like them in the woods, and she told Norman that they were just a little older than them. She and Norman are two completely different people with completely different attitudes towards life, but they love each other, so Ethel leads Norman to change his attitude towards life. When she returned to Golden Pond, she asked Norman to pick strawberries in the woods with a bucket; when Chelsea came to visit, Ethel asked Norman to communicate with them; when Billy wanted to go out on a speedboat by himself, Ethel Persuade Norman to agree to Billy's request... Under the guidance of his wife, Norman gradually changed. When he took Billy to the rapids, he encouraged Billy to drive the speedboat; after he was injured, he still went to catch the so-called fish spirit with Billy; when Chelsea was about to leave, he and his daughter hugged affectionately. Life is a peculiar mirror. Norman gradually changed his attitude in life in front of the mirror, and Norman reflected by the mirror became more and more full of life. A person with a correct attitude towards life will always be in his body. There is a desire and passion for life.

Norman suffers from heart palpitations, so he is often disturbed. As they prepare to move out of the cottage for their daughter's new home, Norman falls ill again. When he fell to the ground in pain, while Aixel was helpless, a fragile life clearly appeared in front of the audience. Fortunately, Norman did not have an accident, and Ethel felt the death that Norman often mentioned for the first time. Death is unavoidable for everyone. When choosing a life attitude, you can choose a positive attitude, but you cannot choose a blindly positive attitude toward life. Blindness can only blind the eyes, making one unable to see the length of life and the danger of death. After Norman escaped from death, his attitude towards life became clearer. That is, cherish the life in front of you.
In addition, the loon has appeared many times in the film, and the director has given this creature another new meaning. The golden pond is sparkling under the shadow of the setting sun, and a pair of loons are leisurely paddling in the water. But in the rapids, Billy caught a dead loon, and Norman saw that he put the loon back in the water and let it go with the flow. At the end of the film, another pair of leisurely loons appeared on the lake. It also presents a life. The length of life cannot be extended by itself, what can be changed is the attitude of life. Choose to live with a positive attitude or live with a negative attitude, the length of your life is fixed. The loon chooses a leisurely life, even if the loon's life has an end. Humans may not be as calm as loons, because humans have hundreds of times more bonds than birds. In addition to life, people also need to deal with emotional issues between people. Like Norman, his relationship with Chelsea has never been handled well. When he was confused, he ignored the most important point: the negative life attitude he chose caused him to be unable to properly handle the relationship with his daughter. After communicating with Billy and being guided by Ethel, Norman chose a correct, upward and calm attitude towards life, and it was precisely because of this attitude that Norman's mentality was changed. At that time, his attitude changed a lot. Norman begins to realize that he has lost a lot by refusing to accept his daughter's love.
At the end of the film, there is still an enchanting view of the pond, and the rippling lake water turns into a brilliant gold under the afterglow of the setting sun. Like a golden pond, a positive attitude towards life can add a golden light to an otherwise mediocre life!

On Golden Pond quotes

  • Bill Ray: You're having a good time, aren't you?

    Norman: Huh?

Bill Ray: Chelsea told me all about how you like to have a good old time with people's heads. She does too, sometimes. Sometimes I can get into it and sometimes not. I think you should know, I'm pretty good at recognizing crap when I hear it. You know, it's not imperative that you and I become friends. I thought it would be nice. I'm sure you're a very fascinating person, and I thought it would be fascinating getting to know you. That's obviously not an easy task... No. You just go ahead and be... as poopy as you want, to quote Chelsea, and I'll be as receptive and as pleasant as I can be. But I want you to bear one thing in mind while you're jerking me around, making me feel like an asshole. I know precisely what you're up to. I'll take just so much of it. Ok?... Now what is the bottom line on this illicit sex question?

Norman: Very good. That was a good speech. Bottom line, huh? You're a bottom line man? All right, here's the bottom line... Okay.

    Bill Ray: Hm?

Norman: You seem like a nice man. A bit verbose, but nice...

    Bill Ray: Thank you.

Norman: ...and you're right about me. I am fascinating.

Bill Ray: I'm sure you are.

Norman: Let's get back to talking about sex... anything you want to know, just ask me.

Bill Ray: No, I just... uh, I just wanted to clear up that little question. Chelsea and I can sleep together, right?

    Norman: Sure, please do.

    [pauses, resumes reading]

Norman: Just don't let Ethel catch you.

  • Norman: You like that word, don't you? Bullshit.

    Billy Ray: Yeah

    Norman: It's a good word
