Bob the Stray Cat is based on James Bowen's best-selling autobiographical novel.
The worst aspects of the hero James' life are vividly brought to the audience in the opening scene: self-abuse over divorced parents, drug addiction, broken family. Penniless, he had to sleep on the street and make ends meet on the meager income from singing. Just when he thought his life was hopeless, a ginger stray cat broke into his life. One person and one cat have developed deep emotions in the life of each other, and James has miraculously returned to the right track of life.
Before this legendary cat appeared on the camera, the film used a lot of space to describe James' life. What we saw was a true portrayal of the redemption and self-redemption between one person and one cat. Indifference is the truest portrayal of this city. The thin, pale James sang hard on the street, but he couldn't get a single glance. He lives on the streets and makes a living by selling and singing. In the evening, on the street in the pouring rain, rummaging through the food in the garbage can. He went to buy a lunch box, rummaged through all the coins on his body, was short of 7p, and begged the clerk if he could sing a song instead of 7p. The clerk threw the lunch box in front of him and told him to leave quickly. His father cut off contact with him, and even when he met him on the street, he avoided it. When he visited his father's house on Christmas Eve, he saw his father, his stepmother and their two children enjoying themselves outside the window. But when he knocked on the door, everything turned into chaos again, and he was kicked out of the house by his stepmother.
The little orange cat who accidentally broke into his life, like James, has no fixed place. It stole James' cereal the first time it saw him. Cats are pure carnivores, they are not hungry to the limit, they will not eat cereal. The second time they met, it lay bloody on the grass, whimpering and licking its wounds. James went from house to house to ask who lost the cat, but was rejected by the neighbors. He took the cat for treatment, and when the registered doctor heard that it was a stray cat, he directly asked, "Euthanasia?". Living at the bottom of the valley, James finally decided to take in the cat, who was as lonely and helpless as him, and named him Bob, and never gave up on it since then.
In every big city, there are souls who are incompatible with this city. They can't adapt to the rhythm of survival of the fittest in big cities, but they also carry the ideal of proving themselves, and gradually they become a group on the edge of the city. James and Bob are in it, huddled together for warmth, yearning for a good day. As is the case with movies, so is life.
"It's like someone opened the curtains and let the sun shine into my life." The responsibility to take care of Bob led James to learn to think about others and to take his own life seriously.
They soon became friends who depended on each other, performing arts together, walking together, fighting the hardships of life together, and enjoying the achievements and happiness of hard work together.
Just after Bob became James's "guest", James' popularity was soaring, and one day's income far exceeded the previous amount. With his innate spirituality and incredible influence, Bob has brought many good-hearted cares to James.
Bob's appearance is simply epic. It is an animal and cannot completely replace human beings, but in the same way, it will not harbor the worldly vision and prejudice of human beings. James' meticulous care for Bob, it accepted without any hesitation, and responded positively, it revolved around James' unwillingness to leave, expressed intimacy to him, and sat on his shoulder to accompany him.
There is a loving interaction between Bob and James. This kind of love from a comet may seem inconspicuous, but it is a huge shock to a love-deficient person who has been treated indifferently for a long time. It allows James to experience the feeling of love and being loved. As a result, James rekindled his desire and confidence in life, and the drug addiction that had been difficult to quit, he quit cleanly at one time. Naturally, it went through a lot of hardships, but Bob's company gave him infinite encouragement. For his love for Bob, for Bob's love for himself, he gritted his teeth and survived this difficulty, overcoming drug addiction. Love is the language of communication between species, as James and Bob found.
Change, most of the time, is not for yourself, but often for the satisfaction of others. Humans are social animals, and most of the transformations are due to the expectant eyes around us, so we are motivated to make ourselves better, which is what the movie tells us about life.
"Everyone needs a turning point, everyone has a second chance, and Bob and I took it!" At the end of the story James wrote his and Bob's story "A Stray Cat Named Bob" . At the signing, James' girlfriend, therapist, James' father, Bob's fans, etc. all came, and the novel became a bestseller. James led his stray cat to live a good life, and also began to pay attention to the life of the homeless and animal charity, and the trajectory of his life changed completely.
This is an inspirational film about a homeless man and a stray cat saving each other, from a true story. And Bob, not only the protagonist of this movie, but also the protagonist of that story. Although the plot of this movie is a bit bland, it is true and touching.
Whether it is a homeless person or a stray cat, or we are in adversity, we are never really abandoned, and we all have the opportunity to change our destiny. As long as we don't give up searching, we can always find a partner to accompany us through difficult times.
Finally, I hope that everyone who is tortured by life can, with the strength given by James, believe that it must be meaningful to maintain goodwill to the world!
