"Ghost Floating Life": I caught a glimpse of the deep dawn, I saw the ancient yesterday

"I will be a catcher in the wheat field in the future. There is a group of children playing in a large wheat field. There are tens of thousands of children, and there is no adult nearby. I mean—except me. I. It’s here. On the edge of the jerk’s cliff. My job is to keep watch there. If a child comes to the edge of the cliff, I will catch him—I mean the children are running wild, and I don’t know where they are going. I have to come out from somewhere to catch them. I do this all day long, I just want to be a catcher in the wheat field." Some movies, once you understand, will be particularly sad. It is difficult to summarize what kind of movie "Floating Ghost" is. It is full of personal style and unique poetry. With flat and slow long shots and still images, director David Lowe told a slightly sad story in his unique film language. Following the ghost with only eyes, we saw the vicissitudes of life brought about by time, falling apart, and what we finally saw was the sadness brought by time and the helplessness of manpower. Throughout the film, the distance and change, the distance between life and death, the changes in the past and the future are described. "What are you doing?" "I'm waiting for someone." "Who are you waiting for?" "I don't remember!" Then disappeared in the aimless waiting. The film has no complicated plot, no ingenious structure, but the whole film has a shocking feeling. Probably because it touched the softest part of my heart, it hurts and sad. In the torrent of time, all waiting and love are meaningless. Between death and birth is nothing but a process of being filled with nothingness. "The form of life is empty, but we have to keep our feet on the ground; the essence of life is absurd, but we have to fake it; the truth of life is nothing, but we have to believe it." David Lowe is A nihilist. In addition to love and gaze, "Floating Ghosts" is also exploring the essence of life. In the flow of time, the form of life becomes clearer and clearer. It is warm, fragile and short-lived. It is composed of a series of memories, seemingly unbreakable, but in fact fleeting. This kind of feeling is like trying to grab something and reaching out, only to realize that it was just the shadow of a tree in the moonlight accidentally shining on the palm of his hand. David Lowe is a smart nihilist. When I thought the story was about to come to an abrupt end, he watched the people coming and going, the corruption of the wooden boards and the falling off of the wallpaper through those infinite eyes. In this endless, those eyes saw nothing but loneliness. Even the things that once truly belonged to him were nothing but ashes in time. What we see across the screen is not a ghost that cannot get out, but naked time, the truth and essence of life. The film is adapted from Virginia Woolf's "Haunted House". The original work continues the stream of consciousness writing technique, but David Lowe gives the story more depth and breadth. There is fleeting love. There is a constant watch. There is uncontrollable falling apart. The ghost saw the disastrous life in the chaos, and saw the impossibility of industrial civilization. However, so what, everything is meaningless, because it will eventually disappear. In a fixed-length lens, the previous, present, and future are firmly connected together to form a complete life. "When I was young, my family often moved around. I would write notes, fold them very small, and hide them in every corner. If I want to go back one day, there will be a part of me waiting there." "Have you been back?" "No, you think I mean that, because I have no reason to go back." "What's written in it?" "It's just some ancient verses and poems, some I want to remember I live, live in that house everyday and where I like it." All love and hate, joy and sorrow, waiting and despair, life and death, past and present, freedom and imprisonment are all in time. They have gone, they have never gone. "Yes, everyone is trying to make a long-term impact. We build achievements little by little, maybe the whole world will remember you... Then there will be a major plate drift, tourist resort national parks will explode, and the western plate will move. The ocean will rise, the mountains will collapse, and 90% of people will die. This is just science. The survivors will go to the highlands, the social order will be chaotic, and humans will return to scavengers, hunters, and gatherers. But maybe one person will one day. Humming a familiar melody gives everyone a little hope. Human beings are on the verge of extinction, but they can always stick to it day by day, because someone hums a familiar melody, and the physical reaction in their ears makes them feel that they are not just fear, Hunger and hatred were relieved, so mankind survived and civilization was back on track." In time, everyone is a dust, it is thoughts that make our lives meaningful. "I caught a glimpse of the deep dawn, I saw the ancient yesterday." Time is endless...
