The human world is in a variety of ways, from this point of view

The difference between the north and south of England, the class of workers and employers in the industrial age, and finally the misunderstanding and love between the male and female protagonists.

Everyone says this is an industrial-era Pride and Prejudice, but the story isn't just about the girl's growth and love, but about that era. That's why "Pride and Prejudice" can be reduced to a movie, and "North and South" spends almost four hours telling the story, and still kills four people in one episode (like "Thunderstorm")

When I watched the first three episodes, I always felt that it was like a "Les Miserables" with a happy ending, and Milton was also a land forgotten by God. Some people at the bottom resisted, some became lackeys, and some left in poverty and disease. Some of their employers were as honest and principled as the male protagonist Thornton, while others only knew how to oppress their employees.

North & South quotes

  • Hannah Thornton: A mother's love holds fast and forever. A girl's love is like a puff of smoke - it changes with every wind.

  • Margaret Hale: I wish I could tell you how lonely I am. How cold and harsh it is here. Everywhere there is conflict and unkindness. I think God has forsaken this place. I believe I have seen hell and it's white, it's snow-white.
