No one grew up

The film is close to two hours, and the main plot takes place in one day. On this day, three teenagers died in an accident.
All the people involved in the incident, I believe they do not know what they are doing. Including the main characters Judy, Jim, and Buzze, they did dangerous and meaningless things for no reason, and pushed the incident to an irreparable point.

There are several important quarrels between the two generations in the film. It is ridiculous that I have had very similar quarrels with my parents many times.
"The third year of high school is very tired and painful. I can't support it anymore."
"As long as you get through this stage, the future will be bright."
(They never told me how to get through now)

"You are not listening at all! Don't care about me at all. ! " "
I cook for you every day to give you money, how do you have the nerve to say such a thing? "
(original parents are such a role.) "

help me please? help me ?? " "
... ........ (silence)" The

old value and moral system has collapsed. Patriarchy used to be a symbol of restraining the new generation, but it also serves as a shelter and guidance. The time in the movie is after the war. At a critical point in time, the new generation reacted strongly to the collapse of the old value system. They can only explore in the dark, coping with bad things that happen constantly with a naive mentality. Jim’s several "sorrows with milk" are really funny...like telling you brightly that this character is still a kid. (But finally there was growth)
At the end , Jim hugged Judy and left in front of his parents calmly, and the parents also looked at each other and smiled as if to say "He finally grew up".
Sadly, the growth of his son has nothing to do with them. Not only can parents not be their children's mentors, but when they are desperate, they tell them "you are helpless."
Compared to Jim, Plato is not so lucky. He lost his mind and died in the confusion. Because his parents are never present?

In the development of the times, new rules and standards have been formed. The current society is called "naive society" because no one grows up. Children used to play with toys, but now "children" also have toys. Cars, houses, jobs... are the new "toys" of the industrial age. Use these toys to control your life and make you obedient. So now, the sleek market is a sign of maturity, and wealth and power are a sign of success. Those dreams of striving for a better future for human society will be laughed at as naive. Responsibility, seriousness, seriousness... have become things that everyone avoids. Instead of exploring complex facts, it is better to spend time joking and joking in entertainment.

You will be taught to be "sightful", "community",
you will be given the expectation of "studying hard" and "finding a good job"
you will be overwhelmed by material desires. You will lose yourself. You will become like everyone else, a meatball produced in a meat grinder in a "consumer society".

This is the norm of the new era. This is a society where no one grows up. This is the future of mankind.

A film that cannot be explained in a sentence or two, the post-war family, the lack of patriarchy, the rebellious generation...and of course the legendary experience of the actors

Icon. The sloping shot of the stairs took my breath away. Really handsome, help. Nobody acts sincere. All rebels are famous. Dean stood in the middle of the group of children, and it was too obvious that he was an adult. The only teenager's moment was when he said to Judy: Did you see where I jumped from the car? I'm not chicken, I'll die if I dance late.

Rebel Without a Cause quotes

  • Frank Stark: You'll learn. When you're older, Jim.

Jim Stark: Well, I don't think that I want to learn that way.

Mrs. Carol Stark: Well, it doesn't matter anyway, because we're moving.

Jim Stark: [Grabs his mother] You're not going to tear me loose again.

Frank Stark: Well, this is news to me! Just why are we moving?

Mrs. Carol Stark: Oh, do I have to spell it out.

Jim Stark: You are not going to use me as an excuse again!

    Mrs. Carol Stark: I don't.

Jim Stark: Everytime you can't face yourself, you blame it on me!

Mrs. Carol Stark: That is not true!

Jim Stark: You say it's because of me, you say it's because of the neighborhood! You use every other phony excuse! Mom, I just... Once I want to do something right! And I don't want you to run away from me again! Dad.

Frank Stark: This is all going too fast for me, son.

Jim Stark: You better give me something. You better give me something fast.

Mrs. Carol Stark: Jimmy, you're very young. A foolish decision now could wreck you're whole life. In ten years, you'll never know this happened.

Jim Stark: Dad, answer her. Tell her. Ten years. Dad, let me hear you answer her. Dad.

    [Mr. Stark sits quietly]

Jim Stark: Dad, stand up for me.

[Mr. Stark still sits quietly, he grabs his father and yanks him up]

    Jim Stark: Stand up!

  • Jim Stark: I didn't chicken. You saw where I jumped. What did I have to do, kill myself?
