eight women

"8 Women" brings together the best actresses of the three generations of French, old, middle and young, and deduces a suspenseful story with only women. The romantic French wouldn't treat such an Agatha Christie-esque story as a horror movie, though. Although the suspense is repeated, the unexpected events are endless, and the ladies sometimes even fight together, but the light singing and dancing of the 8 actresses interspersed among them makes the film have a surreal expression. Maybe it's because the director doesn't want to tell a story about murder at all, or it's not a murder in the physical sense, but a murder in life. In fact, the victims are not the dead alone, and those who are alive cannot escape. Unlike other female-themed films, such as "The Moment of the Time" and "Crazy Flowers", although they are mainly female, there are still male foils. In this film, François Ozon, a gay male director, simply abandoned all male actors, and the only one that appeared was just a back, more like a prop. Throughout the film, however, male influence is omnipresent, contained within everyone's secrets.

8 Women quotes

  • Catherine: Suzon, I forgot one thing. I heard a strange sound. I looked through Augustine's keyhole, and I saw her standing at the mirror with something shiny. I thought nothing of it, but now I'm sure she was sharpening a knife!

Augustine: You liar! I was holding my mother-of-pearl comb and cleaning it.

    Gaby: At 3:00 am?

    Augustine: Combs never sleep!

  • Suzon: Didn't you say you saw no-one?

Augustine: I forgot. I went for a drink.

Gaby: Or a prowl around Marcel's room! What happened?

Catherine: You'd know if you still slept with Dad.

Gaby: I'm being judged by my own child!

Pierrette: That's why I never had any.

Gaby: Just admit no man ever asked you to.
