Bergman's "Cries and Whispers" is really a cruel and unbearable film. The brutality in the Christian world understanding is vividly reflected. The blood-like red that fills the whole film is cold and cruel, just like hell. Like a flame of fire, the faces appeared and disappeared in red, full of disgust, and the only bright color—Anna, the maid who was the symbol of the Virgin—seemed to be swallowed by this blood-colored hell. Seal is completely different. God knows how a Bergman with such an idea survives. Shouting and Whispering is the kind of literary work that, though profound, is unlikable, at least for me. Tarkovsky, Kieslowski and Bergman are also three major art film directors who share the Christian spirituality, but the style and temperament of the films are completely different. Tarkovsky is compassionate and poetic. , Kieslowski is sharp and thoughtful but full of redemption, Bergman is deep and steep, is he the only one who fights the devil hand-to-hand?
