Season 4 opens with a big event: Joffrey is poisoned by Olenna Redwyne and Littlefinger at his wedding to Margaery Tyrell.
After Joffrey's death, several storylines revolved around King's Landing:
1. Littlefinger took Sansa away from King's Landing in the chaos and fled to her aunt Lysa in the Eagle's Nest. As a result, Lysa thought that Littlefinger liked Sansa, and became jealous, and finally Lysa was pushed down from the moon gate by Littlefinger (E7).
2. Because Joffrey insulted the little devil in public before he was poisoned, Cersei thought it was the little devil's hand (after Joffrey died, no one was sad except his mother), and the little devil was imprisoned. The little devil pleads not guilty and demands a trial by combat, and Oberyn Martell fights in his place, against Gregor Clegane/ the mountain (the magic mountain once killed Oberyn's sister Elia Martell). As a result, Oberyn died tragically at the hands of the magic mountain (E8), and the little devil was sentenced to death. The night before the execution, Jamie helps the little devil escape from prison. Before the little devil left, he found Shae on Tywin's bed, strangled Shae and shot Tywin to death (E10).
3. Jamie gives Brienne the Valyrian Steel Sword and sends her to find Sansa and bring it to safety.
4. Joffrey's younger brother Tommen ascended the throne. Margaery Tyrell married Tommen according to the engagement contract (this is Margaery Tyrell's third marriage, the first two were to Renly and Joffrey).
A few storylines far from King's Landing:
1. On the Arya side of Stark's house, continue to escape with the hound/ Sandor Clegane (The Hound, the younger brother of the Magic Mountain), and the destination is also the Eagle's Nest City (Littlefinger took Sansa in one episode, and the Hound took Arya for three seasons). The two heard the news of Lysa's death outside the Eagle's Nest and did not enter, so Arya and Sansa did not rendezvous. Later, they met Brienne outside the city, who wanted to take Arya away, and had a big fight with the Hound, and the Hound was defeated. Arya, thinking the hound was dead, boarded a boat bound for Braavos by herself.
2. On Brandon's side, they continued to flee under the protection of Hodor and others. The group encountered White Walkers north of the Great Wall, and Jojen was unfortunately killed in battle (E10). Finally seeing the Three-Eyed Raven, Brandon is told he can fly.
3. Theon became a hostage of the Bolton family and suffered to the point of insane. His sister Yara came to the rescue, but failed. Roose Bolton's illegitimate son Ramsay used Theon's true identity to capture Carlin Bay and help Roose become the king of the North. Ramsay also obtained the Bolton family status and became the recognized heir.
The Dragon Mother's Line: The Dragon Mother liberated Meereen, and the Dragon Mother learned that the counselor Jorah Mormont was actually a spy for Varys and exiled him.
Snow's front line: Snow, who was guarding the Great Wall, had a big fight with the Savages outside the Great Wall. The Savages were defeated, and Ygritte died in Snow's arms (E9). Snow encounters Stannis' cavalry while negotiating with Mance.
