gorgeous

Pretty gorgeous! This gorgeousness comes from the colors and flowing lines, as well as the imaginative composition, and many of the pictures alone look like some wonderful illustrations that have been collected. The last time I felt this kind of gorgeousness was when I watched [Weird Cat], although the two belonged to different styles.

The film is rather nostalgic. When I first saw the title, I thought of [Nine-colored Deer], and the face of "Uncle" reminded me of the faces of "foreigners" that often appeared in some old domestic animations.

In fact, animation does not necessarily have to develop into 3D to be good. Some traditions are beautiful that cannot be discarded, and they are more powerful. When the invaders attacked Kells, there were several pictures filled with black, white, gray and red. The distribution of colors and the composition made the shock simple and direct, which can be regarded as the charm of art. And this way to interpret a story about the protection of hand-painted cultural heritage is the best.

As for the story of this film, it is quite simple, and it is reasonable that it is not favored by Oscar because it is more artistic than commercial.

7 points. The exquisiteness of the picture is amazing, almost every detail in the background is so perfect, and with the illusory music, the whole movie, especially the first half, is full of dreamlike feeling. But the characters supported by the gorgeous background are more general, and the bigger problem is that the first half of the movie is dreamy and then the second half begins to be realistic, making the style of the whole movie very inconsistent.

The Secret of Kells quotes

  • Aidan: When they come, all we can do is run and hope that we are fast enough.

  • Aisling: I thought you knew how to climb trees.

    Brendan: I do. Smaller ones.

    Aisling: [laughs] Yeah. Like bushes.
