From a mere thief, to becoming a shadow warrior, and finally dying for the deity, this film is not about war, but about loyalty.

As the core of Bushido spirit, loyalty is what this film has been showing.

When Shingen died, the loyal ministers did everything in their power to maintain the Takeda family and abide by the last wishes of the lord, while Nobunaga and Katsuze on the other side were the opposites of loyalty, betrayal, constantly creating conflicts and causing wars.

The protagonist Shadow Warrior, who has become a shadow of Shingen from an ordinary generation, guarding the country for him, is basically because he deeply feels the charm of Shingen's "moving as a mountain" and the spirit of Bushido that loyal ministers believe in. Believe in something and keep it, even if you die, this loyalty will not move like a mountain. And if the skin does not exist, how can the hair be attached? Xin Xuan was mourned, and the fate of the shadow warrior came to an end, but after he was expelled, he still walked to the battlefield with his loyalty to the lord. With the fearless courage, for the Takeda family that he had guarded, he died beside the banner of Shingen just like those true samurai.

The script is very good, and the details are philosophical. The flag is a symbol, and Fenglin and Huoyuan are also a spiritual metaphor, especially in a limited number of shots, the different character characteristics of each character are outlined, which is amazing.

Akira Kurosawa is really superb in camera and editing, and the scheduling of battle scenes and the use of slow motion are worthy of textbook level.

After watching the two parts of "Chaos" together, the quality actually has a big decline in comparison. The rhythm of the first two-thirds is slightly delayed, the effective plot is too little, and the ties between the shadow warrior and the Takeda family have not been fully established, making it difficult for the final catastrophe to arouse emotional resonance. As for whether there is militarism in this film.... opinions differ.

The master is the master. The whole movie is very compact in 3 hours, and the rhythm is controlled very well. The scene is big and not chaotic, and it feels very good to cooperate with the music, especially the war at the end creates a sense of desolation. Various details of the plot pave the way for the failure of the Takeda family. The mountain fell and the Takeda family died.

Kagemusha quotes

  • Nobukado Takeda: I know it is difficult. I was for a long time the lord's double. It was torture. It is not easy to suppress yourself to become another. Often I wanted to be myself and free. But now I think this was selfish of me. The shadow of a man can never desert that man. I was my brother's shadow. Now that I have lost him, it is as though I am nothing.

  • [the double's aides are worried that others will find out he is an impostor]

Masakage Yamagata: Little Takemaru was a problem, but the horse is worse. It can tell. Only the late lord could ride it.

Nobufusa Baba: If the double falls off, everyone will suspect.

Nobukado Takeda: Lord Shingen has been ill. He must refrain from riding.

    Masakage Yamagata: Good idea.

Masatane Hara: There are many other problems. We must be careful to keep the late lord's intentions.

Katsusuke Atobe: Tonight he will have to meet the late lord's mistresses. How will he be with them?

Masakage Yamagata: Our master has been ill. He must refrain from riding.
