After watching velvet goldmine, it is a very special movie, just like Ewan's other movies.

A movie about glam rock in the 70s, a movie full of sexual liberation, gay, bisexual. The men in it are always more pretentious than the women, in platform shoes, with heavy eye ointment and brightly colored lip gloss, this is a film that blurs the gender.

I like Jonathan who plays Slade very much. His temperament is very suitable for playing such a feminine role. He is

flirtatious.

He plays it very well. When I watch the movie, I can't tell whether he is playing himself or Slade.

As for Ewan,

another surprise, really liked his performances in these small budget indie films rather than those Hollywood made ones.

His look in it always reminds me of another Curt, the lead singer of Nirvana. His name in the film, Curt Wilde, is a combination of Curt Cobain and Oscar Wilde, two people I can never relate to.

The music in this movie is also great, and it's my first exposure to glam pop, and I really like it.

I don't want to go into detail about what the movie says, because I'm not sure if I really understand what the movie is trying to say. For me, bright colors, gorgeous music, that's enough.

However, I'll watch it again if I get the chance...

It's too hard to categorize this movie in a single genre, it has both a third-person documentary and a first-person narrative, not only does the original soundtrack run through the film, but it also expresses emotional awareness with an almost psychedelic and cult-style cut. Homosexuality, transvestites, sex, promiscuity, foul language, and violence are all available. The viewing experience is extremely complicated. It is no longer possible to evaluate this film by whether it is good or not. It is like watching the fusion version of "Requiem for a Dream"+ "The Wall" is generally indescribable.

Velvet Goldmine quotes

  • Mandy: What's true about music is true about life: that beauty reveals everything because it expresses nothing.

  • Jerry Divine: Every great century that produces art is, so far, an artificial century, and the work that seems the most natural and simple of its time is always the result of the most self-conscious effort.
