A Rainy Day in New York (2019)
7.3
2019 / USA / Comedy Love / Woody Allen / Timothy Chalamet Elle Fanning

Woody Allen's films have such a magical power, and you are inevitably attracted to him even if you know his routine. He likes to use large paragraphs of dialogue and self-narrative lens language to express one or a few confusing moments and nodes in life, which has become the standard mode of his films. These nodes can be cognitive moments that need to be broken through ideologically, or difficulties encountered at a certain point in life. But what's great about Woody is that he's able to pull you into his narrative every time, making you feel the protagonist's confusion. At the same time, he can make you maintain the sense of alienation and clear thinking ability of watching movies.

Every time I watch Woody's play, I can maintain my thinking position as an audience, and because of this, I can benefit every time I watch it.

Probably the meanest movie he's made in a decade, can't keep up with the golden age, but it's also one of his most watchable lately. But in the end, the overall commercial flavor was done very well. It was originally a movie with great ambitions for the market. It can be seen together with cafe society, but Woody Allen lost the opportunity to turn to the new generation. He may just have to find new actors in Europe.
