I don't know if I am biased, but I do have this feeling after watching "The Man of Tai Chi". Obviously, I don't think there is anything to look at, but I think that it is actually nothing to look at.
I got into the movie because I saw the intro said 40 minutes of fighting, which is exactly what I wanted to see in an action movie. And the introduction is not wrong, there are indeed a lot of action pictures. Chen Linhu is indeed fighting in the whole film.
However, although there are many fights, the audience can't see the bright spot. Tai Chi's movements give people the feeling that they are too elegant, and the movements are very smooth, and the cuts are great, but this does not make people feel the real fighting picture, maybe it is a cartoon played by real people. In a fight screen, or an animation that is introducing a certain game. Especially in various arenas, Chen Linhu's movements are almost elegant to the audience under the silver screen. I have to say that as an audience, I still like this, because who doesn't like to watch beautiful things. However, the basic requirement of action films should be to make people feel that the characters are fighting rather than performing martial arts. Will this be counterproductive? Moreover, the shooting angle is not particularly good, and many scenes of the fight were shot from a long distance, which aggravated the effect of the fight (perhaps the director wanted such an effect). Moreover, in today's increasingly sophisticated film production technology, action movie fighting scenes have become more elegant and become a trend. Like the previous generation of masters, many fighting scenes are also very elegant, and Tai Chi Man has carried it forward. What I have to say is that I personally don’t agree with this kind of film and television effect. This kind of film may make people feel beautiful and play well, but we won’t watch it if we watch it at most, because watching action movies is a In order to be excited, something too beautiful has lost the original intention of an action movie. Like Donnie Yen's previous performance of "Fuse", it is very emotional, allowing the audience to watch the fighting with a very immersive feeling and participate in it. Especially the small restaurant and the hand-to-hand fight at the end, which is really a classic in action movies.
And after watching it for so long, isn't the theme of "Man of Tai Chi" so good? My humble opinion is that the director wants to express the seriousness of money worship in today's society. Money controls people's thoughts and behaviors in this society (because Chen Linhu almost fell for money). There is also the section describing Chen Linhu's downfall. Donaka said that what VIP likes to see is not that fierce fight (because when you start boxing, broadcasting the fighting interface in a narrow space is really not a particularly exciting thing for VIPs) , and like to watch the fall of an innocent person. Probably the director wanted to use this to express the perverted and distorted psychology of the upper class people in the materialistic society. But such a theme is obviously not what the director wants to show, because the whole movie does not highlight such a theme, not even the basic point.
So, to comment on this movie is to watch it. But basically a semi-successful commercial.

Man of Tai Chi quotes

  • Female Announcer: A fine line separates a fighter from a warrior. One is motivated by reason, the other, by purpose.

  • Master Yang: You must meditate.

    'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: Why?

Master Yang: To clear your mind, guide your Chi and gain control.

'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: I have control.

Master Yang: No, you have power not control.

'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: Power is control.

Master Yang: That is an illusion.

'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: It is not an illusion... it's reality. I live in it, you don't. What I learn here I can't use out there.

Master Yang: How can you use what you have not yet learned? Only when you've dispelled these illusions, will you find your way again.
