As knowledge increases, sorrow also increases. Ecclesiastes, chapter 1, verse 18. Life is an instant creation. Luck never favors those who always say no. The purpose of the novel is to overcome loneliness. But on the other hand, you spend most of your time reading a 1,100+ page book that might affect your social life. One of the things I love most about this school is that it feels like anything is possible, as if there are limitless options in front of you. Anything can happen after leaving school. When you do leave school, life begins. Do you understand? A choice has to be made, and then all the choices that were in front of you are gone. Sometimes you just have to think, "Hey, this is the reality." Then it gets a little frustrated about it.

Guilt before action is called morality. Do you think this place is like a prison? Yes, any place you can't leave is a prison. Don't be a genius who dies young; die when you get old. Getting old is a great thing. Getting old and dying is so much better. Listen to me, buddy. Everything you're feeling right now is just a footnote. Understand? You will graduate, then enter society, do what you love, and realize your worth. Some days are still good. Some days are like a gift, some days are disgusting, but everything will be fine. So I'm going to take you out of postmodernism.

What instructions do you have? There are some books about vampires that kids love. Trust me, they will absolutely brainwash you. ( In the beginning, Jesse opposed the books Elizabeth read, and then finally realized how important it is to live in the moment. People of any age can read whatever books they want and do things. Liberal Arts quotes

  • Jesse Fisher: I think one of the things I loved the most about being here was the feeling that anything was possible. It's just infinite choices ahead of you. You'd get out of school, and anything could happen. And then you do get out, and... life happens, you know'? Decisions get made. And then all those many choices you had in front of you are no longer really there. At a certain point, you just got to go, "Oh, I guess this is new its going down." And there's just something a little depressing about that.

  • Nat: Is your name... Ethan?

    Jesse Fisher: No, why?

Nat: You look like an Ethan to me.

Jesse Fisher: My name's not Ethan.

Nat: How cool would that be, if that was your name and I just, like, knew it?

    [Jesse shrugs]

Nat: Are you a student here?

Jesse Fisher: Uh, no, but thank you for thinking that. You?

Nat: Nah, man. Just here visiting a buddy of mine. It's not a bad place to kill a little time, huh? I'm Nat.

    Jesse Fisher: I'm Jesse.

Nat: Do you hear that music, Ethan?
