inner tenderness

Watching this movie late at night is so comforting, thanks again for a great movie.

If there is a distinction between liberal arts students and science students, then I must be suitable to be a liberal arts student. Of course, such a question itself has little meaning. The love and teacher-student relationship in the film are really wonderful, but they don’t feel like the same thing. On the contrary, the Red Riding Hood, Dean and the professor moved me. The former’s butterfly theory is something that is still tangled and confused in my heart. When will the butterfly be? Can it bloom? Can it really bloom? Dean's phone call made tears inexplicably. Who can understand the sadness in his heart? I don't know, but at least the protagonist is willing to try to help him. The professor's prison theory has refreshed my world view, but the helplessness behind it can only be understood by the person who is about to leave the prison.

My personal favorite is Dean's story, a child who can't communicate and lives in the literary world. On the surface, he is indifferent, mean and hostile, but his heart is extremely kind, lonely and helpless, struggling alone, which makes people feel distressed.

Liberal Arts quotes

  • Zibby: [about vampire novel] I liked it. It was fun and stupid. And it passed the time. And it's not Tolstoy, but it's also not television. And it made me happy. Now you...

Jesse Fisher: Thank you... This - is the worst book - ever - written - in English.

Zibby: So there are worse books written in other languages?

Jesse Fisher: Probably not. Unless this book is translated into other languages.

  • Prof. Peter Hoberg: You know how old I am?

Jesse Fisher: No, how old are you?

Prof. Peter Hoberg: It's none of your goddamn business. Do you know how old I feel like I am?

    Jesse Fisher: [shrugs]

Prof. Peter Hoberg: 19. Since I was 19, I have never felt not 19. But I shave my face, and I look in the mirror, and I'm forced to say, "This is not a 19-year-old staring back at me."

    [sighs]

Prof. Peter Hoberg: Teaching here all these years, I've had to be very clear with myself, that even when I'm surrounded by 19-year-olds, and I may have felt 19, I'm not 19 anymore. You follow me?

    Jesse Fisher: Yeah.

Prof. Peter Hoberg: Nobody feels like an adult. It's the world's dirty secret.
