The film tells the story of the Czech immigrant Sama (Bjork) who works in a rural factory in the United States. She is a single mother with a 9-year-old boy. She is gentle and kind by nature. Because of her congenital genetic disease, her vision is blurred and she is becoming blind. In order to prevent her son who inherited the disease from becoming blind, Sama worked hard and worked hard to make money. When her unwitting friend Linda (Catherine Danif) kindly persuaded her, she always smiled, which made her gratified. However, before her eyes were going completely blind, she basically collected the expenses for her son’s surgery. However, at this moment, an accident happened and her money was stolen by the landlord Bill. In order to regain the money, Sama missed and killed it. Bill. Fate pushes Sama into a complex and miserable situation. Fortunately, she has another world. Her obsession and passion for music make her enjoy the beauty and quiet in it, which is enough to resist the difficult reality and tragic fate. The word "darkness" in the title is a pun, which not only points out that the heroine Sama has fallen into darkness due to blindness, but also alludes to the dark side of reality. The "dancer" is the explanation of the heroine Sama's identity and the interpretation of her pursuit of an ideal world, as well as the film's metaphor for a better life. Black means mystery, terror, and death. Each of us has to experience the dark night, but what we look forward to in the dark night is the bright stars and the bright moon. Sama is the stars and moon in the night, lighting up the lamp of our life with her dreams and love.
