"Minefield" is a Danish film about World War II. This film allows us to look at World War II from the perspective of German soldiers. Let’s talk about the background of the story first. Germany occupied Denmark in just 4 hours. Those who know the history of World War II in Europe will be very clear. At that time, the German Blitz could occupy a country in two or three days at the beginning. At the end of the war, Germany was at a disadvantage. In order to prevent the Allied reinforcements, the Germans buried 2.2 million land on the west coast of Denmark, but the Allies chose to land on the European continent in Normandy, France, which made the German landmines in Denmark useless. After the war, these mines were cleared by captured German troops, most of whom were very young German boys. Also, Denmark lost Iceland after liberation.
At the beginning of the movie, it was pitch black, and only a rapid breathing could be heard, and suppressed anger could be heard. When the picture appeared, a Danish officer, Sergeant Carl, looked at a group of escorted prisoners. He got out of the car and caught him. Get out a guy, grab the flag from his hand, say it's not your flag, and beat him up. This scene makes it hard to tell who's a Nazi. At first I thought the man was holding the Nazi flag, that's why Carl was so angry, but I checked later and the flag was supposed to be the Danish flag. It makes me think he's a bit deliberately trying to find fault with the unprovoked abuse of the captives, and makes the audience aware of the officer's attitude towards the German soldiers. At the same time, this picture also implies that the Danes have retaken their country from the Germans, telling the audience that the background time of the film is at the end of World War II and the German surrender. Karl is responsible for taking 12 German soldiers to clear an area of mines. They have to clear 45,000 mines. If six mines are discharged an hour, they can go home after three months.
Let’s talk about Karl here. At first, I didn’t quite understand why his attitude towards the group of German soldiers changed before the film was halfway through. It was not until the third time I watched the film that I found that he was a very kind person. , from the beginning he was very sympathetic to these German soldiers. Carl's first sentence at the beginning was "Are you soldiers?" In fact, this sentence already showed that he was soft-hearted at the first sight of these people. He felt that these people were just children, so he needed to let them speak for themselves. Only by revealing that he is a soldier can he let himself continue to hate them. When Werner said sorry, Karl beat him and said he would not apologize, the Germans caused unimaginable pain to Denmark, and he had reason to hate them or take revenge on them. So he needs them to acknowledge that they are soldiers, not a bunch of kids, kids who want to go home.
There were two people who didn't look up at Sergeant Carl when they first met and said their names, I think these two people knew from the beginning that they couldn't go home after finishing their mission, one was Sebastian and the other was Helmu special. Sebastian is steady, intelligent, and has a big picture. He dared to reason with Carl, asked him for food, and dared to protect his friends when they were insulted. He knew that William must have died in the hospital after blowing his hands off. He didn't expose Karl's lies. He knew that it would not be so easy to return to China after the mission. He knew how many sins he had on his shoulders as a German, so he was willing to endure all kinds of crimes in silence. Unfair treatment, he thought that as long as the debt was paid off, he would be able to return to China one day.
Helmut was a veteran. He knew the mistakes of the Germans and what the Danes would do to them. To pacify these grief and anger, he could only pay his life for his life, and only death could free him, so he mentioned it several times. It was better to just shoot them, so he couldn't take it and nearly collapsed.
I don't really want to tell the story of this movie from beginning to end, I just want to say where I want to. The mines were bombed five times in total, although knowing that the mines would definitely blow up, otherwise the movie could not have a point that made the audience climax. The first time was when the 12 soldiers were still training demining, and one soldier was killed by bombing. The second is that William fell ill and vomited during demining. The mine blew off his hands and he died. William was the most talkative among them, always talking to them about what would happen when he returned to Germany. Life, should die before that sentence. The third Ray killed the twin brother Werner, who had been taking care of his younger brother Ernst. The fourth mine killed his brother Ernst. He went to rescue the little girl on the Danish farm who had accidentally entered the minefield. After sending the little girl out, he turned his head and walked into the depths of the minefield. The fifth mine killed six people, two of whom joined later. They were responsible for loading and transporting the cleared mines away. One of the mine detonators was not removed, killing six people present.
The biggest success of this film is the angle in which he tells the story, which is very deeply about human nature. It is said that a certain dynasty could not make this kind of film, even if it did a certain bureau, it would not pass the approval, even if it was approved, the people of a certain dynasty would not accept it, so in the end it came back again, this may not be the sadness of the filmmaker .
