Analysis of "Sweet Life"
I think the movie "Sweet Life" embodies the consistent style of Korean movies, not like Hollywood movies. The prominent martial arts effect does not have the grand scale of Chinese movies. "Sweet Life" is telling a story, a bizarre story that is in line with people's thinking and logic, but far from ordinary people's lives.
The beginning of the story is very cleverly set, a book, a tree with leaves floating in the wind. A paragraph, a paragraph should be derived from a paragraph of Chinese Buddhism. It is really clever and more appropriate to elicit the story in this way. The tree is moving, the wind is moving, or the heart is moving. The old monk's answer also fully confirms the plot.
In the beginning, the protagonist Shan Yu's expressionless coldness and "unparalleled" skills, it seems that he should not be a thug in the gang, but a savior, a hero in the inherent thinking of every movie audience. Those eyes that look killing people and that black suit seem to have accompanied him for many years, that's what his life is like, helping the boss to remove the "thorn in the eye". So he was entrusted with the important task of helping the boss on a business trip to Shanghai to take care of the young and beautiful girlfriend Hee Soo. This may be the beginning of a nightmare, or the beginning of a turning point in Shan Yu's life, and the movie begins to get to the point bit by bit.
As an audience, I predicted that there would be feelings between Sun Woo and Hee Soo when Sun Woo and the boss had a meal and explained the task. Reasonable meaning.
Hee Soo's appearance is also very clever. It was exactly what the teacher suggested. He gradually introduced Hee Soo from the perspective of Shan Woo. The appearance of Xixiu and the subtle changes in Shanyu's expression also paved the way for the iceberg in Shanyu's heart to gradually melt. After that, Sun Woo followed, Sun Woo and Hee Soo went out for dinner, shopping, and went to see Hee Soo's performance. In the end, Shanyu discovered Xixiu's cheating and beat the man hard, as if not only working for the boss, but also some angry venting of his girlfriend and other people's feelings, but he still Remembering the task, when he accidentally caught a glimpse of Xixiu's face after taking out his mobile phone, his life has been completely changed because of this woman, he softened his heart and did not obey the boss's orders, so this nightmare really began.
Later, the boss came back from Shanghai and accidentally discovered that Shanyu and Xixiu were hiding something from him. At this time, Shanyu relaxed his vigilance because of the love of his son and daughter, and was caught by his former defeat. Although he did not die in the end, his vitality was severely damaged. After the boss rescued Shanyu, he began to find out why Shanyu failed to complete his mission, so he was about to die. Although he managed to escape in the end, he was still scarred. Sun Woo, who personally brushed past death, also began to think about life, about the meaning of past life. So revenge begins, revenge with the opponent, revenge with the former boss.
In the end, Sun Woo still died. I feel like Eileen Chang said, "We will never go back." Although Sun Woo's life has changed, although he likes Hee Soo, his and Hee Soo's lives are completely different, they can't walk together. Sun Woo is dead, but it doesn't mean the end of life, maybe it's a kind of restart.
At the end of the film, there are trees, wind, and blowing, but the difference is the dialogue. The young monk told the old monk that I had a dream that could never be realized. This is talking about Shanyu's death, and this is also the emotional trajectory of Shanyu's fate, and it also points out the theme at the end. But this ending left us too much reverie, which gave me a feeling that I was around but out of reach.

A Bittersweet Life quotes

  • Sun-woo: One late autumn night, the disciple awoke crying. So the master asked the disciple, "Did you have a nightmare?" "No." "Did you have a sad dream?" "No," said the disciple. "I had a sweet dream." "Then why are you crying so sadly?" The disciple wiped his tears away and quietly answered, "Because the dream I had can't come true."

  • Sun-woo: A disciple asked his master, "Do the leaves flow or is it the wind?" His master replied, "No, it is the heart and the mind."
