From the first season to the end of the seventh season, I finally got the idea to write a drama review.
A fantasy drama, which is quite disdainful, but has received rave reviews around the world, there must be a reason. After watching all the episodes that have been broadcasted with curiosity, I found that the show used robbery, murder, incest, violence, rape, blood... all primitive impulses to show the audience almost all the evil in the world.
Even more shocking is the rise of Sparrow in the fifth season and the destruction of the sixth season without crimes such as rape, robbery and murder.
what! Speaking of religion, how holy, how pure, how unfathomable. It is full of profound philosophy, it soothes the hungry stomachs of the poor, and it taps into the sins of the rich...
In the first episode of the fifth season, when everyone expressed their condolences to the Queen Mother Cersei for the death of her father Tywin, the Queen Mother's cousin Lancel opened the curtain of Sparrow's debut with a dirty robe. Lancel's father also It was the Queen Mother's uncle who went on to explain that when old Tywin was alive, religion did not dare to enter King's Landing. Later, Lancel and the Queen Mother had a private chat, mentioning their secret - incest, old King Robert was hit by a wild boar when he was hunting because the Queen Mother gave him a medicine and put it in Robert's wine, Lancel said Only the Seven Gods gave him peace and persuaded the Queen Mother to also believe in religion.
In the third episode, Lancel leads the Sparrows to smash the brothel, capture the Archbishop, and make him parade naked in the streets. The Archbishop angrily went to the Imperial Council to ask for royal intervention, saying that the Sparrows were a group of fanatical believers, led by High Sparrow, which meant that Sparrow and the religion under the royal control were two different groups. The queen mother did the opposite, throwing the fallen archbishop into the dungeon, and went to test High Sparrow in person. During the conversation, High Sparrow began to talk about all beings being equal in front of the gods, until the queen mother said that the archbishop asked the royal family to execute him, he immediately changed his attitude, With a low profile, he said that he did not dare to assume the holy will, and the queen mother expressed her support for him at this time. In a few simple words, High Sparrow understood that the Queen Mother was not so easy to fool, and that the Queen Mother understood that he was willing to submit to the imperial power.
In the fourth episode, the Queen Mother talks to High Sparrow, allowing her to organize the Seven Gods Armed Forces that have disappeared for 200 years. Of course, in return, High Sparrow has something to do for the Queen Mother. The Seven Gods Armed Forces began public operations, smashing wine stands and killing clients. Lancel, who led the team, stabbed the totem of the Seven Gods on his head, and his dull eyes were vaguely reminiscent of Nazis . They arrested the Knight of Flowers (Queen Margaery's younger brother).
In the sixth episode, High Sparrow used Queen Margaery's perjury at the Knights of Flowers hearing to arrest Margaery. At this point, people understood what the queen mother asked the church in return. She wanted the church to attack the queen and regain control of the king. The queen is smart, and her reputation makes it difficult for Sparrow. And homosexuality, even in our year 2019, is still considered a crime by some people, not to mention the more commonplace in the Middle Ages. Beginning with controlling the gay knight of flowers, High Sparrow also controls the queen. Even the Queen's grandmother, the Queen of Thorns, a wise old lady in charge of the house can't help. The evil queen mother was proud, but she didn't expect bad luck to come to her.
In the seventh episode, High Sparrow even put her in a black jail. Beating, intimidation, brainwashing, and forcing repentance. The climax is the tenth episode where the queen mother was stripped naked and walked back to the palace in front of everyone. As the Queen Mother tortured the nun in Season 6, Episode 10:
beating me, starving me, frightening me, humiliating me.
snort! The word humiliating is simply too thin! For a beautiful and aloof woman, what could be more embarrassing to her than to parade naked in the street and be humiliated by the mob showing her JB? This is destroy mentally a lady. And all this in the name of forcing the wicked to repent.
When the Queen Mother paraded naked, people couldn't help feeling sympathy for her. Isn't what Sparrow did to her also evil? What's even more outrageous is that all season Sparrow committed so many brutalities and arrests in the name of good. This behavior is less detectable and more vicious than the apparent evil.
So many Sparrows, people, nuns, Lancels, and ignorant groups are spiritually controlled by High Sparrow, as stated in the eighth episode when the bachelor's visit to the queen mother:
belief is so often the death of reason
Sparrow is no longer a sparrow, it has grown into a vulture, hovering above the powerful families and the people, looking down at all living beings, no matter who is subject to its logic, it has no fear and no constraints.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
And so, in season six, we see how this vulture goes a step further and begins to show its power to the imperial power:
In the first episode, Queen Margaery is tortured;
In the second episode, the church did not allow the Queen Mother to enter the temple where the funeral of the Queen Mother Cersei's daughter Myrcella was held, and the Queen Mother's son King Tommen had to issue a ban. The Commander-in-Chief of the National Army, the Queen Mother's daughter and the real father of the King, the Queen Mother's brother James, must also press his rage against High Sparrow, on the one hand he is surrounded by Sparrow, and more importantly, as High Sparrow threatens, The national mob took this uprising to overthrow the family rule;
In the third episode, King Tommen brought the Kingsguard to the church and asked High Sparrow to allow Cersei to see Myrcella one last time, but was refused. When the two sides were arguing, High Sparrow backed away, and Tommen also told the Iron Guard to retreat. High Sparrow turned to be kind, praised the motherly love of the queen mother, and then said that the suffering of the queen mother was the will of the gods. Only by accepting the will of God can we be just and kind and become a wise monarch. Tommen, who had no political experience, was quickly confused and accepted this rhetoric, believing that it was the king's responsibility to punish his mother.
In the fourth episode, Queen Margaery, who has been imprisoned for many days, is allowed to see High Sparrow. The long-lost sunshine makes her almost unable to open her eyes. High Sparrow said the idea of finding her family after Margery's release was a quest for wealth, power and guilt. He also had a huge family property, and he danced and danced every night. Until he was inspired by God to see through all the pompous surfaces and see the sin beneath the wealth. From then on, he abandoned everything, and spread the word of God with the poor and beggars on the street. (These nonsense may deceive others, but Margaery has her own wit and tenacity.) She is then allowed to visit her brother, Loras the Knight of Flowers, who is also imprisoned. Loras fell to the ground in a decadent spirit, as if he had no will to live. When Margery hugged him tightly, he no longer cared about the honor of the family, the hope of the family, and just wanted to end all this as soon as possible. Only then did Margaery understand High Sparrow's intention, which was to use this meeting to completely destroy Loras' will. As long as Loras pleads guilty, the church can trample the Tyrell family to which the queen belongs.
In the sixth episode, King Tommen worries about the safety of Queen Margaery, fearing that she will endure a humiliating journey of redemption like her mother. Under the permission of High Sparrow, Tommen met Margaery, who had been imprisoned for many days. She seems to have accepted the teaching, recognized her true self, and abandoned her once hypocritical face. On the long steps in front of the temple, High Sparrow was announcing Margaery's crime to the public. The troops of House Tyrell, who had come to save the queen, marched to the steps and set up their ranks. Jaime rode up the steps of the church, and issued an order on behalf of King Tommen, asking the church to release Queen Margaery and Ser Loras, the Knight of Flowers. High Sparrow first gave an attitude of devotion to the gods, and then changed the subject, declaring that Queen Margaery had atonement for her sins, because she led King Tommen to the light of the seven gods. The door of the temple opened, and King Tommen came out and held Margaery's hand. Even the armor of the Kingsguard behind the king was engraved with the sign of the seven-pointed star of the church. High Sparrow had won before a war had even begun. Since kingship and faith are one, Jaime's attack on the church is a violation of the king, and he no longer has the right to serve as the kingsguard. He took off the armor of the Kingsguard in the presence of his son Tommen before the Iron Throne.
In the seventh episode, Margaery takes off her dirty sackcloth and puts on a gorgeous dress, wearing the queen's laurels on her head. Even so, she did not forget the mission entrusted by the seven gods, and she still devoted herself to studying the "Seven Stars Bible" in the church. High Sparrow was very satisfied with her performance, and did not forget to teach her that the combination of kingship and faith also requires the love of mortals to create a successor for the two. Margery respectfully accepted God's instructions. High Sparrow thought it had complete control of the Tyrell descendant, and the conversation turned to her grandmother, Olenna Tyrell, Queen of Thorns. In his view, Olenna is a sinner who is obsessed with his own mind. If Margaery can't get her on the right track, the Holy See can't guarantee Olenna's safety.
So in the company of Sister Unya (not so much accompanying, but monitoring.), Margaery returned to the palace. Olenna has been in charge of the family for decades, how can she see the descendants of the family being at the mercy of others. She insisted that Margaery return to Highgarden, and then try to rescue Loras from prison. Margery knelt gently at her feet, holding her grandmother's hands, begging her to leave King's Landing. Olenna felt a note tucked into her palm, and she carefully scrutinized her granddaughter's eyes and understood a little in her heart. The Queen of Thorns no longer insisted, and agreed to return to the High Court. A rose is drawn on the note in the palm of the hand, (Margaery's heart still belongs to the Tyrells, not the Seven.)
In the eighth episode, Lancel took Sparrow into the Red Keep and asked to meet the Queen Mother Cersei by name. When Grand Maester Cobain told Cersei that King Tommen knew about it, she stood up, seemingly unable to count on the King to intervene. The warrior Demon Mountain followed Cersei to see Lancel in the hall, Lancel brought High Sparrow's instructions and asked Cersei to return to the temple to await trial. Cersei would never leave the palace, and she would resort to violence to do so. The magic mountain unscrewed a Sparrow's head alive.
Cersei came to the throne room, this time King Tommen had an important announcement, but did not notify his mother. Cersei could not have imagined that her son had been controlled by High Sparrow to such an extent that she did not recognize her six relatives. She could only stand in the corridor outside the hall, like an outsider, listening to the king's statement. Trial by combat was originally Cersei's last resort to ensure that her scandal was not revealed and the imperial power. However, Tommen, according to High Sparrow's words, announced the abolition of the barbaric tradition of winning or losing by combat. The knight, the queen's younger brother, Loras, was sent to the guillotine.
Behold, this vulture controlled the queen, expelled the army and the grandmother of the queen's family, mentally destroyed the knight of flowers, confused the king, and could even shake the foundation of imperial power by judging the queen mother Cersei. It is only in the face of Cersei's violence that it does not do as it pleases.
The rise of Sparrow, its cunning and power, reminds people involuntarily of the dark history of medieval European bishops coercing kingship in the distance, the Nazi ethnic cleansing in the near, and the nearest, you guessed it? This power spreads fear into the world. It confuses all beings with high-sounding lies. It uses violence to destroy all rational people. It has no restraints and thus is obsessed. this tumor!
Finally, in episode ten, Sparrow ushered in its demise:
On Judgment Day, along with the soft soundtrack, the temple door slowly opened, nobles filed in, and the beautiful queen and the trembling Hundred Flowers Knight came to the crowd. The queen dowager was accompanied by fancy clothes and wine, but the young king was stopped by the samurai.
The tune turns to mystery, the old maester who persuaded the king to believe in religion is lured into the dark room, and the Sparrow armed warrior Lancel is led into the underground palace under the temple.
The hymn is sung, the cello is drawn swiftly and heavily, and the children draw their knives , stabbing the old maester to death. The organ played to the cello, and a child with a terrified expression stabbed Lancel.
The people in the temple were still dazed by the melodious music, and only Margery was aware of the danger. In the increasingly rapid sound of the violin, she was eager to take her younger brother, the Knight of Hundred Flowers, but was blocked by the Sparrows. Lancel of the Holy Temple climbed to the burning candle on the wildfire fuel.
Wave after wave of cello stopped abruptly, High Sparrow and his temple were destroyed in the explosion of wildfire, and all the people in the temple became sacrificed.
This divine soundtrack perfectly matches the plot and interprets the ferocious under the holiness, which is really chilling.
