Two story lines, one takes place in Denmark, an advanced civilization, and the other takes place in Africa, a low-level backwardness, and the two stories are intertwined. The only physical connection is the Danish doctor who is supporting in Africa. The whole movie is like a green space connected to the forest. It is necessary to pass through the uneven and damp forest to reach the open, sun-lit green space. The subtle and fluttering sounds such as jingling, and the scenes such as "flocks of birds" and "dirty road with thick smoke" in the scene switching, the image effects are focused, making people feel that all things have animism and everything has hope.
In movies like this, some directors tend to over-sublime at the end, becoming over-loving and over-heroic. In this part, the emotions are all covered, and there are two impressive places. One is when Elias' mother complained and abused Christian and did not let him visit her son; after calming down and learning about Christian's story, Elias's mother went to Christian's house Inviting him to visit Elias, the best part is that the director let the audience know that Elias' mother invited him to Christian's house, but it is unknown how she talked to Christian. The other is at the end of the film, doctor Anton is chased by a group of black children, similar to the beginning of the film, but this time the children have more respect; the reason is that the doctor openly rebelled against the local villainous Big Man not long ago.
Susanne Bier is appropriate for the cause and effect of the "bombing", the main event of the film. First, after Christian was bullied, he hit the bully on the head with an inflatable tube and used a knife holder to frighten him around his neck. The characters are set up here first. For the back of the film, doctors Anton and Elias, Elias' younger brother, and Christian say that there is no need to care about the car mechanic. But Christian couldn't forget it, so he planned a plan to blow up the mechanic's car.
Blowing up the car is Christian's resistance to bullying in a civilized society. And in Africa, driving the villain Big Man out of the camp was his father, doctor Anton's resistance to bullying.
Anton has been bullied and kept silent before, which may be a sign of weakness in the eyes of children. And in the face of people ten times worse than those who bullied him in Denmark, Anton did not keep silent. It can be regarded as the great love and righteousness of a man.
In Denmark's story, there are also misunderstandings between two families. One is that Christian mistakenly believed that his father killed his mother; the other was that Elias's mother and Anton's wife did not trust him. Although the director did not clarify whether the conflict between the two families has been resolved. Just from the few words reflected from the film, it is certain that their misunderstanding has been resolved.
I watched the first half of this movie on the plane flying back to Shanghai. After returning to Shanghai to pack my things, I watched the second half, but the emotions that were cut off also piled up to the point of tears.
