Anne Fontaine's Chanel, and Christian Duguay's Chanel inevitably have to be compared. The heroines are all old drama bones, and they all highlight Chanel's unique personality, expressing her distinctiveness, boldness, conceit, and independence to the core. But Tautou wins with his eyes, and the old Shirley Mclaine wins with his demeanor. In the "Coco Chanel" play, the young Coco is played by Barbora Bobulova. Although his acting skills are excellent, compared with Tautou, he lacks the domineering and conceited nature of Chanel. The costumes in both shows are classics, recreating the unparalleled elegance and simplicity of Chanel's era -- a time when women wore corsets, long skirts, and hats adorned with horribly exaggerated feathers of flowers and feathers -- and it was mind-blowing.
