After watching, not a movie review

The subject matter of this film appeals to me: academics, psychosis, dictionaries, English, British. I chose a movie theater close to home, but this movie theater is really down and out. Choose 21:00 PM. People who celebrate Christmas call the 24th Christmas Eve, to me it's just a day. It was just me and another man in the cinema. I regret not being so close to him, it will feel like a private room if you are far away. Movies are meant to be enjoyed, not rated and judged. So I just want to share my opinion. First, English is broad and profound. For a non-native English speaker like me, 10,000 words is just a drop in the ocean, but then again, there are only 200 words most commonly used by a British farmer. Second, only a scholar can do the long and frustrating drudgery of compiling a dictionary, and only a scholar can have joy in hardship. Two characters, one Oxford and one Yale. As a scholar, I actually have their perseverance. Writing a book is relatively easy compared to their work. Doing meticulous mental work conscientiously is our survival advantage. Third, the correct solution to if love then what is if love then love. Reason and emotion are doomed to fail. If you love, you can only love. . . Fourth, morality is the bottom line, which is to do the right thing, despite the pain. The professor ran for the madman's friend, and the madman went to the palace because of guilt, telling me how good it can be to be better. Fourth, Mel Gibson and Sean Penn looked so good when they were young, and they looked so good when they were old. Will I buy an original English book and read it from beginning to end? Then count how many words you don't know.

The Professor and the Madman quotes

  • Dr. William Chester Minor: It's freedom, Mrs. Merrett. I can fly out of this place on the backs of books. I've gone to the end of the world on the wings of words... . When I read, no one is after me. When I read, I am the one who is chasing--chasing after God.

  • Dr. William Chester Minor: Have you gotten to the "I's" by now? I had some to add to your words. But I can't seem to... I can't seem to find my pens.
