The film attempts to explore very deep propositions: love and forgiveness, often referring to classic religious texts such as the Bible, Atonement, Paradise Lost. However, it is not surprising that Mel Gibson is one of the main creators, with a strong religious meaning. There are a few clips that are still very touching, but the two monologues of the professor and his wife are too much like speeches, and it feels like the director is expounding his thoughts through the character's mouth. The desire to express is too strong, but it is easy to cause discomfort to the audience.
