When I want an apple, please don't give me a cart of bananas

All in all, it's a flat and delicate film. The well-ordered contradictions are laid out unhurriedly, so that the audience will not fall asleep, but they can also take time to pour a glass of water and take a nap. This is a kind of consideration.

Annie is a good adolescent girl, hungry for recognition and encouragement. The father at the top of the company was always too busy with work to take care of Annie's psychological growth. The mother, a reasonable woman, gave her a lot of confidence and care, but with work and caring for other children, that care seemed far from enough.

So Annie, like many teenagers, entered an online chat room. A highly educated and fickle uncle turns into an invincible young man over patterns, Charlie, and enters Annie's world. The old man had eaten far more salt than Annie had, and knew all about the G-spot in female animals, be they women or girls, psychological or physical. He complimented Annie, encouraged Annie, and courted Annie, just as he used to do to other little girls. In short, it is to cover up its dirty and despicable physical needs with eager innocence. After two months of fling, he caught Annie, took her to a hotel, and raped her, though she didn't resist.

Ok. Now that things have developed here, we can review the conditions under which the strange uncle succeeded.

One of the conditions, material conditions - computer. Annie's MAC was a gift from her dad on her birthday. Dad did not forget to praise the high performance of this computer at his birthday dinner. Here's an interesting contrast, the gift from Anne's close and similar-age brother is a sexy black lace gown. Dad also reminded Annie that the skirt was too see-through. But it turned out that this seemingly normal gift from Dad provided the basic material conditions for the strange uncle to successfully seduce Annie. And that coquettish little dress was as obedient as a lady. I feel like this is a taunt that the director can arrange. From this detail, we can see Dad's consistent style of doing things-conservative, like to control everything. This style also paved the way for the father's loss of control later.

The second condition is the objective condition—Annie just changed schools. Need to adapt to the new environment. Annie wants to be recognized by her peers. So she reluctantly went to a party of cynical girls, even though she didn't agree with their style. She silently went to the bathroom while the group of girls discussed oral sex at the party. The new environment is an objective condition. Annie felt uncomfortable in every way. She felt lonely and helpless.

The third condition, the psychological condition - this is the most important condition. Annie must need reassurance, for Uncle's tricks to work. So why not get comfort from family members? The film arranges a detail. Anne wasn't happy when she came back from the party. She wants to talk to Dad. But Dad didn't have the patience to wait for her to finish, and turned his attention to work. Annie is a sensible child, she said "good night" obediently, and immediately sent a message to Charlie when she returned to her room: "Only you understand me." It can be seen from here that Annie is lonely and vulnerable at this time. And it feels neglected. The strange uncle also has children, he knows where Annie's psychological sensitive area is. Technically speaking, for a well-positioned repeat offender, all he has to do is scratch a little and Annie will shirk (as it was described starkly in their chat log). Therefore, when Annie successfully entered the school team to play volleyball, she was overjoyed, and felt that it was all due to Charlie.

The fourth condition, other conditions - such as Annie's parents sending her brother to college, creating an opportunity for the strange uncle to meet Annie, etc.

Comparing these four conditions, condition 1 and condition 2 are irrevocable and will not be repeated. Condition four is random and uncontrollable. Thus, the only possible way to change the outcome of Anne's rape is to change condition three. That is, if Anne's psychological needs were adequately understood and met, she might not have entered teenage chat rooms for comfort; might not have become so dependent on a stranger, Charlie; when Charlie repeatedly cheated on age When she does, she is likely to regain her sanity.

Ok. Let's see what happened next.

Being sexually assaulted was just the beginning of the pain, followed by a series of dramatic blows that drove Annie to a corner.

Annie's father (hereinafter referred to as Annie's father) has been imagining Annie's tortured images in his mind since he was notified by the police of the fact that Annie was sexually assaulted, while driving, in the office, at the company... These images made him fall into Crazy situation. He did not believe that the FBI could find the murderer, and he tried many times to investigate the case, but all failed. This made him even more frustrated, angry, and hard to escape. He cast this nameless fire on Annie's mother (hereinafter referred to as Anmu) and Annie. There are several scenes of heated arguments in the film. An's mother warned him that he should stay by his daughter's side instead of always thinking about how to catch the murderer. But Father An ignored Mother An's warnings again and again, and did a lot of extreme things, which deeply hurt Annie's feelings and led to the escalation of the father-daughter conflict.

In the first incident, Annie didn't want her brother to know about it. However, Anfu brought the matter to the fore less than five minutes after seeing his brother at the train station. Not only that, but everyone at the Halloween dinner, including grandparents, knew the truth. They show unusual concern. This made Annie very embarrassed and angry.

In the second incident, Annie finally got a chance to play off the bench. She had a rare smile on the field. Annie's parents and sister cheered and cheered in the stands, as if nothing had happened. However, this peacefulness was shattered by Father An's inexplicably flattening the stranger in the stands, because Father An imagined the stranger as a strange uncle who violated Annie. Annie was very embarrassed in front of everyone. She went home and had a big quarrel with her father. She said, "I know things are different from before. But please don't remind me every minute..." This line came out Annie's voice.

After being sexually assaulted, Annie only wanted her parents' care and understanding, while An's father was all about punishing the murderer. For example, what Annie wants is an apple, but An’s father is trying to get her a cart of bananas. Annie is angry at a bunch of meaningless bananas because she didn’t get the apple she wanted. And Father An was also very angry at Annie's ignorance. He didn't understand why she treated him like this when he gave him a carload of bananas. This is also the reason for the escalating conflict between their father and daughter.

Posters playing tricks on Annie circulated on the internet, finally giving Annie the final blow. She ran straight home from school to the bathroom, swallowed two bottles of sleeping pills, and tried to end her life. Ironically, during this time, Father An was frying eggs in the kitchen downstairs. He seemed to hear something, turned back and called An Mu's name, and continued to fry the eggs when no one responded. If it wasn't for Annie's friend who informed An's mother later, An's mother cried and called An's father and begged him to go upstairs to see if Annie came back, Annie might have died before her father's eyes because of the delay in the rescue. At that point, it becomes a tragedy caused by apples and bananas.

At the end of the film, Annie wakes up early in the morning to find her father sitting on a recliner in the yard under a blanket and reflecting on her father all night, and the two sides finally reconcile.

Personally, I feel that the whole film is instilling the understanding of "understanding" in the mind of the director. What is understanding? The understanding is, when I need an apple, please don't give me a cart of bananas, an apple.

Postscript: Personally, I think this film is very suitable as a prequel to Hard Candy. Annie's best friend is perfectly motivated to be the smart and evil little loli in Hard Candy. And the video at the end of the movie about the happy life of the strange uncle can also be used as the background for the opening of "Hard Fruit". Perfect combination.
