[It turns out that love is not suicide for others, but to live no matter what. 】
The movie "The Gift of Room 7", the one I recommend today is the 2019 Turkish version. The performances of the protagonists' mentally handicapped fathers Memo and Owa are excellent. Let's unwittingly be heartbroken and laugh with them.
A 6-year-old girl, Ova, lives with her father, Memo, and her grandmother, Fatima. Their lives are simple and happy. Dad would take Owa to and from school every day; he would also go to the hillside to herd sheep. Grandma does some farm work at home.
Although Owa's father was different from other fathers, his intellectual age was only as old as Owa's. But he loves Ova a lot.
One day after school, Owa took a fancy to the "Heidi Schoolbag" in the store on the street. But my dad didn't have that much money at the time. Even if the owner said that how much money can be paid upfront, the rest can be paid later. Dad refused, saying that Grandma would be upset.
The next day Dad went to sell apple candy and saved enough money to buy schoolbags for Owa. But the schoolbag was sold one step ahead of schedule, and Owa's classmate Hitan was carrying it, and her father was the director of martial law. Owa's father caught up to try to exchange money for the schoolbag, but was slapped to the ground by the martial law director.
Ouwa and her father returned home sad, Ouwa was sad because her father was beaten, and her father was sad because Ouwa did not buy the beloved schoolbag. Grandma hugged Dad, and Dad asked Grandma, "Grandma, will Ouwa laugh again?" Grandma said with heartache: "Yes.... Don't underestimate yourself, you are no different from others. You have more, no Less. Son, you have a kind heart."
Later, Memo went to herd sheep near the ruins on the hillside, and met the little girl with Heidi's schoolbag. (The family had a picnic on the hillside). The little girl played with her and fell off the cliff. Memo jumped down to find her. When the family found them, Memo was holding the girl and crying. The girl was covered in blood and had died.
The martial law director insisted that Memo killed his daughter and wanted to put him to death.
Although he knew that Memo was mentally handicapped, he still colluded with the Department of Health to change Memo's health certificate. He also kept beating him and forcibly drawing and detaining him. Memo was sentenced to death, suspended. He was held in Prison No. 7 and banned from family visits.
The prisoners in Prison 7 all have their own criminal records and stories. But be nice to each other. And the boss, Zuo Luo, has a strong network of connections, and anyone can get him anything he wants.
Gradually, the people in Room 7 began to have feelings for the kind-hearted Memo and regarded him as a friend. Seeing that Memo misses her daughter every day, they feel ashamed, "Which of us is a better father than him." They tried every means to send Owa to prison to visit her father. Later, people found out the truth of Memo's being framed, and even the warden and the captain, the highest officials of the prison, joined in and planned the "most ridiculous plan" together... (The plot climaxes here)
The ending is shocking and moving. This is the miracle of Room 7. It was also their gift to Memo.
Watching this movie, I shed a lot of tears, and I believe you are too. For the sensible Ova, for the kind Memo, for the unjust environment... Among them, there are three scenes that moved me the most:
- "The most absurd plan" part (no spoilers for specific details)
—Grandma Fatima said to Owa: "Owa, I'm going to tell you two things. The first thing is: the truth. Those birds your dad chased, they didn't fly to heaven, they came in summer, Leave in winter; The second thing is: no matter what they say, no matter what the order is, no matter what the sentence is, your father is a good man. Don't forget, your father is a good man.
——Ova entered the prison, and Zoro told Ova that everyone here was sick. When Dad is sick, he will take Dad to find her. Owa asked them one by one what was wrong with them. In the innocent and clear eyes of the girl, they face up to their sins, heartache, regret... Among them, the young man who forcibly locked up a girl because he liked her and tried to commit suicide said, "It turns out that love doesn't kill for others, it doesn't matter. How to survive."
The lives of the people in Room 7 were changed because of Memo and Owa.
I think it is more appropriate to sum up with the words of the old man Bingxin: kind people are the easiest to be deceived, and the most unbearable to deceive.
May love last forever in the world.
