It's a sci-fi movie, it's really a sci-fi movie.

First of all, I need to solemnly explain: the main connotation and essence of this film lies in its artistic restoration of traditional Japanese folklore and storytelling, the depiction of characters, conflicts, changes in the colors and lines of the picture, the variation of music and the use of musical instruments. Both are excellent works.

I'm not trying to tell you the truth behind this story, it's not Inception, it's not Life of Pi, there's no conspiracy theories, there's no hidden third story. What I'm going to say, I'm going to focus on two places near the end of the movie that I can't help but think about.

The first place is that Hui Yaoji decided to return to the place where she grew up before August 15th, and met Samaru, who already has a wife and children there. The two decided to desperately pursue the true meaning of happiness, and then hugged and danced, floating in the air. Although this scene is quite dramatic, it is actually a more obscure sexual suggestion. The two more obvious shots are of two people embracing between the clouds and mist. Many pheasants flew quickly from the lower right side to the upper left, and then suddenly there was a shower of rain in the air, which disappeared in the next shot.
I believe many people will dismiss this as nonsense when they see it, but this personality hint is vague, but it is not unreasonable for the story.

The second place is when the gods descended to the earth to take Hui Yao Ji back to the moon. I didn't pay attention at first, until the movie repeatedly gave many shots of clouds, and I couldn't help but find out: the shape of the entire cloud is exactly the same as that of a UFO, and the movie even gave a miniature of the earth. The type of music in the scene related to the gods (I saw the film critic said that this piece was composed by the director himself, the authenticity is unknown, but if it is true, it will fully prove my inference), in fact, it is full of strong sci-fi color, But on the surface, it is still a long-standing Japanese folk story.

Once again, the focus of this film is not on the above two points, but on the stylized image style and the poetic soundtrack of Yoshinori Hisaishi. I believe that although the director focused on restoring this legend that is almost a household name in Japan, he did hide a little bit of his own views on this legend. I appreciate this work very much, and the reasons for my appreciation are not limited to the above two points.

As for the following content, it comes from my brain supplement (it's really the third story... What the hell am I doing?) Pure entertainment, this is my speculation on the director's views on this folklore (this sentence The logic... I can't find a concise way to express it.) The audience does not need to be serious, this is just an extension of the above two points.

An alien race with advanced technology wants to know more about the ecological activities of human beings on earth and their economic arts and other activities (which may also include some reproductive experiments), so it sends an experiment that has undergone a series of appearance modifications. body (this test body is probably not the first). During the long-term communication with human beings, the experimental subject developed many feelings and thoughts that originally belonged only to human beings, and longed to bond with the beloved human beings. This backfired after the experiment came to an end and the subject was taken away and appeared to have had their memories erased.

Really don't have to take it seriously, this is just a piece of speculation (brain) about the director's views on this folklore. All that aside, this kid-friendly folk tale remains an impressive and poetic masterpiece.

  • The Princess Kaguya: [singing] Go round, come round, come round... come round, oh distant time. Come round, call back my heart. Come round, call back my heart. Birds, bugs, beasts, grass, trees, flowers. Teach me how to feel. If i hear that you pine for me, i will return to you.
