I watched the trailer first. Although the trailer was a bit confusing, it was very Cohen-style from the tone to the feeling (although I haven't seen too many Cohen's movies, and I forgot many of the plots after watching them, but the tone is still Remember), after watching the movie, I found that it was very different from the imagination when watching the trailer. Although the movie was very dark, it lacked a shocking power. If it does not erupt in silence and perishes in silence, then this is a movie that perishes in silence.
Personally, I think there are two big problems with this movie:
First, the story of the sub-line has absolutely no effect on the main line. Basically, the two separate stories are twisted together, and the connection feels very far-fetched.
Second, although the story of the main line itself has some twists, it is not very complicated for audiences who are used to seeing complicated and bizarre stories (such as below), and it is a bit cliche / cliché. Cliche's story needs to be well-shot, either by digging deeply into the characters, or changing the angle, or focusing on contradictions, but this film did not do it, but because the unrelated sub-lines weakened the time and space of the main line expression. The final ending has neither reversal nor climax (well, I still like "Invisible Witness" movies with reversal and climax), after watching it, people always feel: Oh, that's it?
Another point is that although the actors play very well, the characters themselves are not so brilliant, whether it is the role of Damon or Moore or a child. Perhaps the most impressive of many people is the insurance investigator? Anyway, what impressed me the most was the mistress of the black family, because of her poised / calm aura, and of course her role did not play any role.
In my humble opinion, film noir still needs climax, because film noir itself is usually more depressing (of course, there are also climaxes that are not oppressive throughout), and after more than an hour of depression, there needs to be an outlet for emotional catharsis at the end (not necessarily very The kind of outlet that is very sensational, or it can be a darker explosion, etc., etc.), and then shocks or touches or thinks. Otherwise, if you don't break out in silence, you can only perish in silence.
