Fifty-five-year-old Dorothea (Annette Bening ornaments) took advantage of the World War II when women joined the labor force began drawing work. Since the divorce, he has lived with his fifteen-year-old son Jamie (Lucas Jade Zuman) in a big old Santa Barbara house. She also has two tenants, a man and a woman, a car mechanic William (Billy Crudup) and a red-haired photographer Abby (Greta Gerwig). This seems to be a literary and artistic family, and most of the discussions at gatherings are the purpose of life, the love between men and women, The new song addresses these noble and profound topics,
as Dorothea finds it more and more difficult to understand a growing Jamie due to a time when Jamie and his companions nearly die in the game, which will be a nuisance to a mother. In the terrifying future, she was afraid that the two of them would become strangers. She found Abby and Julia, hoping that they could help Jamie grow up. When she told Jamie about it, he was not convinced but sneaked away with his companions. Going to LA nightclubs all night, keeping his mom in bed until dawn.

Dorothea Find themselves in a new age where young people have their own songs, hair styles. They don't worry about nuclear war anymore, but they worry about the warming atmosphere, they have AIDS, they have the Internet, plus President Reagan. She was always afraid of being out of touch with society. But then she still communicated with Jamie. They got to know each other.
Finally, they all watched the smash hit "Unbalanced Life" "Koyaanisqatsi (1982)" and broadcast I read President Carter's speech critical of material enjoyment when he came down from office. There are so many things, this is a story made up of several fragments that don't seem to be completely connected, but it reflects the director's purpose of making this film very well. This is a semi-memoir of his mother by writer and director Mike Mills.
I am America for 1979. As a first-time foreigner, you certainly cannot experience these changes like an American. But for more than 30 years, I still see more and more Mexicans, Indians, and Chinese on the streets. The shots and dialogue of the film are more and more open. The flow of people on the street is getting more and more simple. It is very different from the movies and novels that introduced the United States in China before. Not to mention electing a previously unimaginable president. Now it looks like it all started in the 60s and 70s, when I came to America.
By the way, I watched "Unbalanced Life" in the 1980s, and I was very impressed, but then I couldn't remember the complicated name, and I couldn't read it thoroughly. Now I finally have a clue.
