Sometimes, it has to be admitted that when movies and sports are combined, the feeling of burning doubles, like [Sudan].
Last year, I watched [Wrestling! Dad], the stereotype of Bollywood movies disappeared, and I was even a little envious and jealous.
This year, another Indian wrestling-themed movie [Sudan] landed in mainland theaters. In this movie, I saw and [Wrestle it! Dad] a very different possibility.
①
A man who refuses to admit defeat wants to counterattack
First of all, let's be clear, the release date of [Sudan] in India (2016-07-06) is better than [Wrestle! Dad] (2016-12-23) It's early , so there is no [Sudan] "plagiarism" [wrestling! Dad] this statement.
But the two do have similarities - the origin of the heroine of [Sudan] and [wrestling! Dad] had a very similar story—both female wrestlers, and both fathers wrestling.
In [Sudan], the heroine Alpha's father wants a son to win back the Olympic medal, but Naihe is a girl, but who says that women are inferior to men?
Despite the similarities, [Sultan] and [Wrestle! Dad] The biggest difference is still in the positioning of the movie.
[Sudan] is a standard sports inspirational movie, whether it is a routine or a law-abiding one, it still shows the unyielding character of a sportsman (so the name of the movie and the male protagonist are called "Sudan").
[Wrestle it! Dad] questioned and reflected on society in the name of sports. A simpler comparison is: "Dad never admit defeat" and "Dad always said that women are stronger than men".
[Sudan] is also an obvious big male lead, almost the starring Salman Khan propped up the entire movie alone.
And [Wrestle it! Dad], on the contrary, more like a group show, Aamir Khan is important, but the daughters are also indispensable.
However, even in the "personal color" [Sudan], you can also see wrestling with [Let's Wrestle! Dad] similarly progressive and critical.
Like the heroine Alpha, she insists on equality between men and women and controls her own destiny. It is she who inspires Sudan to change from a small town youth to a world champion.
She represents and [Wrestle it! Dad] the same values.
Sudan's newborn son died due to lack of blood transfusion from the same blood type. As a result, Sudan sank and became a grass-roots citizen. He wanted to build a blood bank, but he couldn't get the approval.
And after becoming the champion again and honoring India, everything will fall into place...
Of course, the [Sultan] who knows his position clearly knows what his film should show.
These criticisms of Indian society have become the shining point of the film, but it is just right and enough. It will never affect too much, the protagonist's advanced journey.
Also making way for the protagonist's counterattack is "Sudan's love", and the love scene is a very important part of the story of [Sudan].
Sudan is forging ahead because of love; Sudan is passive because of the cold war with his wife; Sudan is successful because of his wife's prayers and encouragement.

A man who does not admit defeat is beautiful
Just like those wonderful, classic sports inspirational films. [Sudan] used many of the same techniques internationally to show the journey of the legendary wrestler.
This 139-minute mainland release version should be reworked based on the 147-minute international version, so the large-scale song and dance drama that appeared in the 170-minute version in India has basically disappeared in the mainland release version.
For example, the use of light and shadow, the two nodes at the beginning of the movie and the return to the game are particularly obvious.
Another example is the use of slow motion.
It can be said to be a common technique used in sports-themed movies. Like football, it has been used in the recent [Last Goal] and the [Victory Escape] in the early years, while the same wrestling theme [Wrestle! Dad] is the same.
Generally, slow motion will appear at the end of the film to create an atmosphere and create a lore atmosphere.
However, in different contexts, the use of slow motion has different meanings.
[Sudan] In order to create a good wrestling (boxing) feeling, in addition to the use of light and shadow and slow motion, there are also fast and slow editing, interspersed shots, etc.
It can be said that [Sudan] is the culmination of the characteristics of sports inspirational movies.
Even the "sudden awakening" at the end, which may be criticized, is actually a common design of sports inspirational movies, such as [Creed], which is also played like this.
So when the audience followed the Sudan ups and downs all the way, and at the end, when the Sudan won the game and was very happy, the purpose of the movie was achieved.
And this is also its ambition to contribute to a sportsman's counterattack, the audience is happy, and Salman Khan is also happy. As for social issues, it's [Wrestling it! father] thing.
After all, the ambitions are different, and the direction of hard work is also different.
Sometimes, it has to be admitted that when movies and sports are combined, the feeling of burning doubles, like [Sudan].
So when will an excellent sports inspirational movie be released in our country? I can only bet on [Li Na] now.
