Comment on "Encountering Strangers"
This is a film with a lot of information. After watching it, I have five grains and miscellaneous grains in my head, and I don't know where to start after thinking for a long time. I saw a lot of people in the film critics say that every character in the film is sick, but I don't feel sick, maybe it's a normal state in itself, or maybe I don't think they are sick when I'm sick too. In many films, you can guess the general development in 10 minutes after watching it, but this film is completely free from the director's uncontrollable play of his own thoughts, let alone guessing the ending.
The movie starts with Helena, so I'll start with her. After being abandoned by her wife who had been with her for most of her life, she seemed to be deceiving herself and living under the deceit of the fortune teller. It seemed sad but actually she was always happy. Yes, a lot of times dreaming really works better than taking medicine. The reality is inherently cruel, there are many problems, grief and anger cannot be controlled and solved by human power, each of us needs a "diver" to say what you want to hear, even if it is not real. Like The Secret says, if you can see it in your heart, you will have it eventually. Dreams come true. In the end, Helena is also really like the fortune teller "prophesied" "you will enter a very fulfilling period, I see handsome strangers appear in your life, powerful attraction, you two are like a pair of magnets" encounter To the "handsome stranger".
By the end of the story, except for Helena, who had a happy ending, everyone else seemed to be still struggling with panic. In "Business Dao", Master Shi Chong enlightened Lin Shangwo, "Everyone has a knife in his hand, which can both kill and save people." Of course, he can hide them all and become "inaction". This knife can sometimes be understood as desire. When the desire expands infinitely to the point where you don’t need to consider the interests and feelings of others, you start to use your killing knife. If you just do your best and don't do evil or good, that is "inaction". The Tao Te Ching says that inaction is a kind of action. The first two are extremes and indeed the norm, and it is true that there are not many "doing nothing". Helena in the movie is the "doing one" who just listened to the prophecy of the goddess very purely, living her day with hope and fantasy, and finally fulfilled. For the others, the old man abandoned his long-term wife for the sake of "enjoying youth forever". The "writer" destroys the beauty of the "woman in red" for "lust", and the "woman in red" also destroys the promise with her fiancé for the sake of "lust". The only daughter who makes people feel "good" is frantic, angry and ruthless sarcasm after she finally borrowed money from her mother, and there is no family affection at all. . . . . All people took out "killing swords" in front of their desires. They don't know that when you take out a murder knife and drive towards others, the result will be thousands of knives towards yourself.
What should I do when my daughter loses her mother's funds to open a store? Writer's friends wake up to how they'll face it. . . . . Wait for the narration to say "It's time to end the story", yes, it can be ended now, and their ending is left to God.
Mr. Woody Allen can describe everyone in the film so full that he can't get distracted when watching the film. There is no doubt that he is indeed a great thinker.

  • Jane: Sally, don't get a crush on your boss. That way is total madness.

  • Sally: What happened to Jonathan?

Helena Shebritch: I've been all over it with Crystal. He left me for another woman.

    Sally: No!

Helena Shebritch: A deceased one. They're always the stiffest competition... No pun intended.
