However, the sudden visit of the father caught his daughter by surprise, and the father realized that under the indestructible appearance of his daughter's work day and night, a cold and empty heart had been cultivated. He asked his daughter: Are you happy? Apparently, the daughter couldn't answer, and didn't want to answer such a question—she was so busy that she didn't have any time to think. The father decided to drag his daughter out of this empty life.
The narrative thus unfolds with the help of a tug-of-war between two people. With false teeth and a wig, the father follows his daughter like a ghost under the false name Tony Erdman. In these scenes, the father's funny dress is like a mirror, which reflects the utilitarian/powerful/selfishness of his daughter's behavior from time to time, making the daughter frequently embarrassed and reminding her again and again. The viewers follow along in the suspense of when the daughter will be broken by her father. The director skillfully used the spiral narrative rhythm to let her daughter retreat to a farther starting point after each eager advance. After several rounds, a climax explosion was accumulated.
What the director is most proficient at is the detail shaping of each scene. In these scenes, the director shows his ability to create dramatic conflict delicately and delicately. For example, in the scene in the outskirts of Romania, the frontcourt was the compromise of the daughter and the obedience of the father. The two came to the outskirts of Romania peacefully, and the atmosphere was harmonious; the midfield changed between the father's sympathy and kindness to the locals and the daughter's ruthlessness. The conflict in the back field directly rose to the outbreak of the past conflict, and the daughter accused her father of incompetence in her life. After a brief lull in the outbreak, it turned into a big Romanian family in a festive atmosphere. Here, the daughter's tired heart seems to finally tear a crack in the warm inspiration: she painted eggs with the locals, and sang a song from the bottom of her heart with the accompaniment of her father. It was the first time her daughter was in front of everyone. Unloading her atrium to reveal herself, however, her daughter ran away quickly after singing. Experienced viewers know this will be a prelude, heralding a bigger explosion waiting to come.
Living up to expectations, the director created a sudden naked birthday party. This is almost a stroke of genius. We can't guess that the daughter, who is always in a black suit on weekdays, simply came to be naked at this time. The daughter finally took off her own mask, and at the same time she invited others to take off their masks too. This once again creates a suspenseful climax, and we're curious to see who will go along with this unreasonable and hilarious request. The director's choice reverses our perception again: friends and lovers who are close to the daughter on weekdays all refused the invitation, but the company boss and employees with interests agreed to the request - this seems to be explained by the daughter's desire to The move to lift the barriers still creates new barriers in the end. Obviously, it is only for the sake of interests that people with interests may do absurd behaviors against their own will, and their respect is the principle of reason. So, we are curious, what about the father? The director's design is amazing once again - the father actually appeared wearing a Romanian god mask, like a big hairy monster.
This big hairy monster has become a symbol of the missing hearts in the whole play. The big hair monster comes from traditional Romania, the uncivilized pure and primitive land, the domain that has not been overly polluted by utilitarianism/rationality. It is the piece of Eden that my daughter has long been missing. Their territory, however, does not belong to this eccentric room full of bizarre nudity. So, the director arranged for the big hairy monster to go to the center of the garden, where there were only flowers, plants and children, where the daughter finally fell deeply into her father's arms. All misunderstandings/conflicts are dissolved in this deep embrace. This is probably the most emotionally explosive moment in the entire movie. Here, my father finally fulfilled his wish and left safely.
