The director did not say whether the current timeline would remain or be erased after changing the past once. At first, I thought it would be erased, but I also thought that Nick was really desperate in the end, and erasing the existence of the entire world would also send Bella back to her own timeline. But after thinking about it, it makes sense not to erase it. I have three timelines. There should be one line before 1989. I forgot to draw it.
The three timelines are probably like this. First of all, in 2014 in the A timeline, Bella made a video call with Nick in 1989 through the TV. After saving Nick, a new timeline B was created. The heroine woke up the next day to find nothing had happened, because she had created a new timeline. Nick, who survived in Timeline B, met the young Bella and married Bella. Until 2014 in B, Bella's consciousness in A was transmitted to Bella in B, and it covered all of Bella's consciousness in B. Nick didn't tell the truth at first in order not to lose his lover. But Bella in B desperately wanted to return to A and finally jumped off the building and died. Nick had no choice but to video chat with himself in B in 1989, creating a new timeline C. Because Bella can't go back to timeline A, Nick can only influence a C similar to that in A. In this world, Bella's original wife (the cheating man) and daughter are all there, and Nick is not dead. So Bella's consciousness in B, who had died, was teleported to Bella in C again.
In fact, there are a few points I'd like to raise, not just about this film, but about many others like it:
1. It is not that changing a will only affect b. If a small thing in the past is changed, it is likely to cause a completely different future because many things will spread like water waves and then affect new things.
2. It's not that doing one thing will affect other things. A movie with this setting will always have a certain bridge, and a specific thing must happen before the time can be changed. But isn't the emergence of consciousness before I do this already affecting time? I don't understand it myself, and I always feel that it is a bit buggy, but it seems that changing the settings of the timeline is untenable.
