How to write a bad story from a good setting - learning from the first episode of the fourth season of Black Mirror is enough

Could the script for the first episode of 'Black Mirror' Season 4 be any worse?

[How to save yourself when your consciousness is trapped in a world of Almighty God], such a great setting, the part that can be discussed is missing.

The content presented in the film is flat and shallow:

Under the extremely subversive power contrast between the cowards in real life and the omnipotence in the virtual world, the alienation of people only stays at the level of enslaving others to complete interstellar adventures;

The absolute trust between the copy of consciousness and the original consciousness (directly asking for help in real life) to the strong opposition between the copy of consciousness and the original consciousness (coercion of oneself in real life), this kind of abruptness of psychology before and after is obviously very inconsistent. ;

Not to mention how blunt the presentation of family affection is.

The interesting part that can be discussed is almost swallowed up by this mediocre story:

The ethics of the copy of consciousness, the cognition and reflection of consciousness on itself, the bond between the copy of consciousness and the original consciousness;

The alienation of absolute power to people - the distortion of desire to people, the fascination with power and the fear of losing power;

Under the enslavement of absolute power, human dignity, strength or weakness, mutual attack between people or because of fear and anxiety, or emotional connection with destiny...

All the wonderful and discussable parts are not seen in the play, only simple stacking can be seen...

USS Callister quotes

  • Robert Daly: I'm coming to get you!

  • Robert Daly: [Furiously patching through to Walton, who is fixing the engine manually from the jet fader] Walton, you're going to pay for this.

    Walton: Robert, listen.

    Robert Daly: I'm going to bring Tommy back in.

    Walton: Hey, Robert, listen...

    Robert Daly: God so help me, you are going to regret all of this SO HARD!

    Walton: Bob, I wanna talk to you here! I was thinking i should say... sorry.

    Robert Daly: [Beat] Go on.

    Walton: [Breathlessly as he fixes the engine] You created Infinity. You're a fucking genius. I exploited that. I treated you like the golden goose and I got fat off the profits, figuratively speaking. And I was thinking, I should have appreciated you more, you know? I should have treated you better. Yeah, yeah I was thinking I should say all that.

    [Beat]

    Walton: But then you threw my son out of an airlock, so... FUCK YOU TO DEATH.

    [Activates the engine which incinerates him]
