This movie reminds me of the dream I once wrote on my desk when I was in junior high school and was made fun of by my classmates for a while: Become a heroine, live in seclusion in the mountains, and live a prosperous, quiet and peaceful life. This is probably what it means, but the sentence of seclusion in the mountains is definitely correct. So how enviable is Francis who owns a 300+ year old villa in Tuscany, in my opinion. However, she felt that it was stupid to live in such an empty villa by herself, and she wanted to have a wedding and a home here. I understand this idea, but I don't agree with it.
Living alone, although there will be a lot of inconveniences and loneliness, what we lack is the joy of being alone. You can do what you want without being restricted. Of course, when you are lonely, you need to invite a friend or two to stay for a while, or open a salon at home and hold a party, but it does not necessarily require a long-term living partner. You can also find a roommate, even long-term, but you don’t need a particularly close relationship, just get along like a friend, so that you don’t lose your friendship skills and communication skills.
If you live alone, you can decorate your own space with all your heart. If you are in a busy city or a big city, you don’t have to worry about the inconvenience of living; if you are in a small town or a backward country, you can get more beautiful scenery. If you are in a foreign land, you can experience the beauty of different cultures; if you are in a place with the same language, you will feel more secure. Anything is fine, but it needs an independent space, a house that only belongs to you, and a lot of time that you can arrange at will. Even better if it's a house in need of renovation, so you don't have to worry about having nothing to do. It would be even more beautiful if there is a mountain road near where you live, and the cliffs and the sea below the road. In the movie, this mountain is the Alps.
At the end of the movie, Francis' dream has come true. Although the wedding is not her own, nor is it a home made up of her and another man, she has actually found the life she wants. I personally think that if the movie ended like this, Francis would be my ideal female figure. I remember a teacher once said that American women are often very beautiful when they are young, but once they get older, they will show the appearance of decline, just like a flower has passed its flowering period; while Chinese women are different, many women It is often in middle age that she slowly shows her unique intelligence and temperament. Of course, I think Chinese women are divided into two extremes, and there is no shortage of women who are more hateful with age. But Francis is different. This American woman, even if the years have left marks on her body, may not be completely out of shape, but she still has an attractive mature charm. She is a fruit, not a flower. However, in the end, the film arranged for another American writer to meet her. Maybe life has to be hopeful, as the movie says: "They say they built the train tracks over the Alps between Vienna and Venice before there wasn't a train that could make the trip. They built it any way. They knew one day the train would come. (It is said that when the Vienna and Venice railway tracks on both sides of the Alps were built, there were no trains that could drive on this track, but it was built, and they knew that there would be a train running one day.)" But we may not need another person's feelings to determine our worth, and the practice of substituting one relationship for the other is often unsuccessful.
The fact is, we are always planning, always looking forward to the most ideal state of life, hoping that we can live this kind of life. Maybe life at the moment is leisurely and beautiful enough.
