It's a dream to wake up

In the dormitory, there are students watching variety shows overflowing with joy, readers in the library holding romance novels and laughing, and audiences crying in the cinema.

Stop dreaming, wake up.

A laborer at the bottom of society, a waitress who bore the brunt of the Great Depression, a woman who raised her husband and longed for love. The identity of the heroine suggests time and again that this is a dream, and you have to wake up when you need to wake up!

But the heroine just can't wake up. After marriage, her husband doesn't love her, but just treats her as a money machine. She looked for fantasy in the cinema again and again, and again and again fantasized about the purple rose of Cairo blooming in her rippling spring heart.

Finally, both men fell in love with her. Two identical men, cute and full of male hormones, how can people refuse?

However, a virtual and a reality?

Actors on screen advise her, and the best thing about reality is that you have choices.

She chose reality!

Since you have chosen reality, you must accept it. The reality is that you will wake up from a dream, and your dream lover will leave in a private plane.

Her dream disappeared when the billboard of Cairo Purple Rose was removed, and she was alone at the entrance of the cinema.

We want freedom, the actors on screen shouted.

You are the Communist Party! The real boss yelled loudly.

For the people of the Great Depression, freedom is not the Communist Party!

But you are diaosi under capitalism, how can you delusional freedom, how can you delusional success, how can you delusional love!

Where there are purple roses in Cairo, there is no bullshit love in reality.

Go dream!

But don't wake up!

There's so much to say about this captivating story, and even the scene where the movie's characters are trapped on screen reminds me of the deconstruction of Angel of Destruction.

People in reality want to live an illusory life, while illusory people want to live a real life. So Tom Baxter stepped out of the movie and came to the real world; and Cecilia entered the movie and wanted to be with Tom. Being unemployed, domestic violence, and eating soft food, she was overwhelmed by life, so movies and virtual worlds became her spiritual sustenance. The second meaning is that it is a metaphor that thousands of movie fans have been frustrated and hit in reality, and they have to release the pressure through movies. Movies have become a part of people's lives, and even replaced life. But the movie is just a movie after all, no matter how beautiful it is, it is not true; in the same way, even if the reality is cruel, even if Cecilia is deceived by Jill again, she cannot escape the reality. As "Top Player" said: reality is the only reality.

The Purple Rose of Cairo quotes

  • Cecilia: Last week I was unloved. Now, two people love me - and it's the same two people.

The Countess: Go with the real guy, honey, we're limited.

Rita: Go with Tom! He's got no flaws!

Delilah: Go with somebody, child, 'cause I's gettin' bored.

  • Tom Baxter: Cecilia, it's clear how miserable you are with your husband. And if he hits you again, you tell me. I'd be forced to knock his teeth out.

    Cecilia: I don't think that'd be such a good idea. He's big.

Tom Baxter: I'm sorry. It's written into my character to do it, so I do it.
