"Either die or live well."

Original, commercial reproduction is not allowed in principle.

I can't remember many of the plots of the original book clearly. After two years of reading the original book, I will watch the adapted movie "A Man Named Ove Decided to Die".

Notes on kindle two years ago

If the memory has not been lost, the original book is more worth reading, with more than 200,000 words, from beginning to end, there is a Nordic metaphor and humor everywhere, and it is more dramatic, joyful and warm to read. The movie omits a lot of minutiae, many scenes and bridges are mostly passed in a few seconds, and the dialogue seems a little thin.

After talking about the feelings, let’s talk about this movie nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

The story begins with Ove, a 59-year-old wearing a beret, buying flowers. From the very beginning, he became angry because he was dissatisfied with the discounts. This extremely disciplined and eccentric old man was very persistent in his own ideas, to the point of stubbornness.

In the original book, Ove is very disgusted with modern information technology, government regulations, and looks down on contemporary commodity products:

One cannot be capricious, as if loyalty are worthless. Nowadays, it is a quick thing to change things, but the knowledge of how to make things stronger seems superfluous. Quality - no one cares for a long time.

It can be seen from the movie Ove complaining to the female teller.

Ove calls the female teller an idiot

But Ove seems to be on his mind all the time. He wants to kill himself. He wants to go to heaven to see his wife, Sonia, who died of cancer 6 months ago.

But when it came close to succeeding, the neighbors always bothered and asked for help at that moment, which made Ove, who wanted to die, very angry.

The book is a bit more humorous and comedy than the movie, and the humor in the film is often downplayed by Ove missing Sonia.

Ovi is an extremely persistent old urchin. When he was young, he didn't talk much, but he followed the rules of the community. Anyone he didn't like, such as Jijiwa who ran wild, illegal parking and driving, and public officials who blocked his way. , Even if you don't talk much, you have to teach a lesson, and come up with your own mantra: "Idiot!"

Ove scolds stray cats

Dad drove a Saab for a lifetime, so Ove also drove a Saab for a lifetime. The most hilarious thing in the movie is that Ove and Rooney were good friends from the beginning, because Rooney drove a Volvo, and the two straight men of steel started because of what they believed in. The estrangement caused by the car, Rooney finally changed to a BMW, and the two broke off completely. Ove said that Rooney was "an absolute traitor!"

In the original book, the plot of comparing cars with each other is very comedic, and throughout, the original book ends with Ovie meeting a "confidant" who has the same car as he likes:

That's when the boy relaxed for the first time, an imperceptible smile on the corner of his mouth, and the eyes that looked straight at her were full of uncontrollable pride that only one word could express: Sabo.

But his perseverance is almost a kind of belief. If things go wrong, just do it. He is never late to meet his lover Sonia, does morning exercise at 6 o'clock every day, and checks the community environment every day. From suicide, we can see how persistent and persistent he is.

Ove is also a very helpful and extremely responsible husband.

Although Ove is not friendly to his neighbors, when the neighbors ask him for help in trouble and difficulties, Ove has to do good things to the end. In the film, Ouwei's enthusiasm for helping his neighbors seems a bit far-fetched, but in the original book, Ouwei is the steward of the community. Even if everyone does not vote for him, Rooney replaces Ouwei as the chairman of the neighborhood committee, and Ouwei still has to manage the size of the community. Mrs. Rooney had to go to him if she needed help.

Ove is a guy who says he'll do what he says he's a "geek" at home, with almost no engine parts or anything like that.

He will not fiddle with the project: afraid that the house left by his father will be demolished, he will do it himself and redecorate it; when he wants to settle down with Sonia, Ove will build his own house and make a home; when Sonia is pregnant, the first thing that comes to mind is Make a crib for the baby; when Sonya's books can't fit, she immediately makes a bookshelf; when she is entrusted to take care of the girl next door, she cleans up the neighbor's kitchen by the way. Who doesn't love such a man with a powerful boyfriend?

It can be said that the biggest touch point of the film is to use the present and the past to intersperse, slowly uncover Ove's heart knot to reminisce, the dark and bright lines interweave to intersperse Ove's growth time, recall the love with his beloved wife Sonia (reminds me the episode of The English Patient).

It was always said that the world in Ove's eyes was black and white, and she was the color, all his colors.

After the office worker in the white shirt made Ove lose his home, Ove could only sleep in the carriage with a package. Ove had always been self-reliant and never needed help from others. Although he was excluded, he met the love of his life. The person, Sonia, can be considered a blessing in disguise.

Ove and Sonia want to kiss

Sonia was beautiful, and Ove, though dull, moved her with kindness and sincerity. Ove has loved his wife all his life. Although he is taciturn, Ove shows his strong boyfriend strength all over his body!

That's when the tones start to change to the warm colors of natural light, contrasting with the melancholy blue of the neighborhood Ove lives in.

"Either die or live well." After Sonia became pregnant, the couple went on vacation to Spain, but suffered a car accident, and the wife could no longer bear children, so she spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair. But Sonia is so beautiful and kind. After graduation, she was looking for a job and wanted to teach for children with special needs.

Ove builds slides downstairs

"Either die or live well." Yes, he loves his wife, and he doesn't allow love to be late, so Ove pulls a carload of boards in the rain all night, and downstairs in the classroom, nails nails, and presses the boards for Sonia Build a slide. The plot was so heartwarming and it made me think about how Guido loves his wife in Life is Beautiful.

This is one of the most moving parts of the whole film.

Back to reality, Ove was alone in a room in the cool tones of melancholy blue, walking alone, and with the soundtrack, it was very desolate. Sonia died of illness, leaving only Ove alone, so a man named Ove decided to to die.

He misses his wife so much, the modern world is out of tune with Ouvig, no relatives, no friends to talk to, and he wants to see her in heaven so much. But Ove waited for Sonya all his life, but he was never late (I remember that the original book emphasized this point), according to Ove to his wife's tombstone, the only time he was late was that he couldn't go to heaven to see Sonya earlier, Ove took this as a souvenir. Every good time spent with Sonia at home, the neat wardrobe still retains the scent of his wife, and Sonia seems to be sleeping beside the pillow, looking at Sonia's photo frame, he feels that his wife exists in some form and still loves follow me.

The film deals with the relationship between Ove and his neighbors and slowly becomes a family, with a character of Ove slowly walking out without asking for outsiders. In the original book, the relationship between Ove and the neighbors is very delicate, and there is a sense of joy that they do not know each other, especially the two daughters of his wife from Persia, who are very naughty and cute, and can feel the mood that the film cannot feel in the original book. So in this regard, the film is diluted by the stereotyped cool tones and Ove's thoughts, and there is no particularly warm effect.

Speaking of the most important points I got from the movie, the movie mainly shows the Nordic style, with blue and warm colors as the basic tones. The environment in which the elderly Ove lives is mostly in the cold environment of blue (except indoors and wheat fields): blue clothes, blue eaves, blue sidewalks, blue sky and soundtrack constitute the basic tone of a typical Nordic film. I have always liked to pay attention to the overall feeling of the film. From the point of view of my viewing volume is far less than that of others, a hundred years of film history, world-class directors are to build the world in the lens. While some classic films don't immediately put you in the world, for me, the immediate new world wins me over.

For example, Nolan's "Batman: The Dark Knight", if you are a loyal Nolan fan, you can feel: the Gotham City that is separated from the real city at the beginning of the film, suddenly you will feel that the director is building a new world.

There are also the different world of "Inception", the Italian town of "Life is Beautiful", the strict Shawshank Prison in "The Shawshank Redemption", the black and white world in "Shadow", the artistic quality of "Blade Runner 2049" The Cyberpunk City, The Party at South Station. Every movie is building its own world. According to the familiar saying, "art should be based on life, but also higher than life", and the biggest highlight of the movie is to build its own world on the basis of art. But not every movie has to work on photography like "Shadow" and "The Party at Southern Station". Compared with these two, I prefer Nolan's "Inception", "Batman: The Dark Knight" and "Deadly Magic". Directly using the narrative of the plot to build the world, watching Nolan's films is like a dream, like waking up from a dream.

And "A Man Called Ove Decided To Die" does not seem to have completely constructed a film that is different from its predecessors in terms of narration and filming. The tone is always the tone of Nordic style, and the warmth and emotion that I perceive are similar to those of the predecessors. Movie.

But why is a family love movie like "Ove" so well-received and recognized and empathized by the world?

I think it's a simplification of scene elements. I haven't read any film history books, and I'm not a practitioner, but I think movies that inspire people's minds have such characteristics.

Here's a list of movies with similar styles:

"Hachiko", "The Thief Family", "Unreachable", "Moonlight". . .

Some of these family films are controversial, but they are also approved by Oscar, so why?

I think there are two reasons for this:

1. Minimalist movie scene.

Most films, especially Chinese films, tend to take advantage of the city's natural characteristics to shoot the flow of people in the city and shoot the beautiful scenery from a distance. However, this long shooting technique seems to bring out the mood of the characters, the characteristics of the times and the humanistic scenery, but it often feels like such a deliberate effect after watching the movie. A good movie will always make people remember what is placed in a scene, and those scenes with allegorical objects are always connected to the state of mind of the protagonist. For example, the streets and gates of the four films in the 4th film are inseparable by focusing on the characters to bring out the surrounding environment. The black brother in "Unreachable" walks on the street where black people gather. It doesn't need too many shots to let us feel the various social problems of black people.

2. Do not deliberately create climax bridges

There is no need to repeat this. Everyone wants to create the idea of one or two thousand dollars, but it is very difficult to do without a touching script and the acting skills of the actors. Why is the climax of "I Am Not a Medicine God" some people feel aesthetic fatigue? Although it is a masterpiece, but there are several episodes that make you cry, you feel that you don't know who to sympathize with (but after all, it is not a family film, pure is a personal feeling).

All in all, "Ove" is an excellent movie. You will always feel touched and warm through Ove's sincerity of "cold outside and hot inside" and the warm family style of Sweden. What moved me the most was actually Ove in the original book. His old-fashioned and persistent character made him go through many hardships in his life, and a rebellious person has his own love.
