Shaking cities, floating buildings, bright or dark lights, floating tables, abstract characters, with magical colors and unreality, constitute a half-dream and half-awake life.

The theme I want to convey is probably that life is like a dream, and life is composed of blurred dreams and lucidity. People walk in the world and meet is fate. Our protagonist has no name. What is the use of names? Indeed, a dream is born In the state of, the name is just a code name, and the real meaning is the person itself. We follow the protagonist through real or illusory scenes, dreaming, waking up, dreaming and waking up, falling into a wonderful cycle.

Form is a means of expressing ideas. Animated characters, rough lines, no refinement, large chunks of rough colors, not very fine details, shaking contrary to daily stability, and imperfect effects are this one. The perfection of the movie is also the charm.

Follow the protagonist to embark on a dream journey, encounter strange people and things, and then wake up from the dangerous scenes in the dream, adopting the typical mode of being sober in the dream. I wake up for a while, and I don’t know when I will enter one dream after another. The most common scene in the dream is to talk with people. The conversation objects are philosophers, historians, and anthropologists, and the truths of these people can be understood. Can't understand it, it's in the mist. Or two people who are not the protagonists are talking, and most of the designs are major issues such as life and life. Once thought it was reality, the protagonist wakes up from the dream again.

The second half of the film is similar to psychologists' analysis of dreams: the close relationship between dreams and death, the situation in dreams is particularly similar to what happens in real life, and the connection of dreams makes people think.

What makes me cold and sweaty is the part about explaining how to wake up from a dream. The protagonist meets with people and talks about the switch in the dream is not working. Before leaving, the protagonist manually clicked the switch by the door. It was bright. The light remains unchanged, confirming that this is a dream. There are dreams in dreams, endless, which reminds me of Inception.

Dreams are bizarre and twists and turns. Frequent occurrences of dreams make it difficult to distinguish between dreams and reality, such as Zhuang Zhou’s dream of butterflies.

Life is like a dream, too hurried, you and I are both passing by, such as Zhuang Zhou and Ruo Die.

Waking Life quotes

  • Man on TV: A single ego is an absurdly narrow vantage from which to view this experience. And where most consider their individual relationship to the universe, I contemplate relationships of my various selves to one another.

  • Kim Krizan: Creation seems to come out of imperfection. It seems to come out of a striving and a frustration and this is where I think language came from. I mean, it came from our desire to transcend our isolation and have some sort of connection with one another. And it had to be easy when it was just simple survival. Like you know, "water." We came up with a sound for that. Or saber tooth tiger right behind you. We came up with a sound for that. But when it gets really interesting I think is when we use that same system of symbols to communicate all the abstract and intangible things that we're experiencing. What is like... frustration? Or what is anger or love? When I say love, the sound comes out of my mouth and it hits the other person's ear, travels through this byzantine conduit in their brain through their memories of love or lack of love, and they register what I'm saying and they say yes, they understand. But how do I know they understand? Because words are inert. They're just symbols. They're dead, you know? And so much of our experience is intangible. So much of what we perceive cannot be expressed. It's unspeakable. And yet you know, when we communicate with one another and we feel that we have connected and we think that we're understood I think we have a feeling of almost spiritual communion. And that feeling might be transient, but I think it's what we live for.
