What are we missing in the past?

In fact, it has been a few months since I watched "Pain and Glory", and I recently conducted various annual summaries, only to find that this film occupies the top of my personal list of various movies, and I like it myself. It's also quite surprising, because there has never been a movie that has had such an important place in my heart. "Pain and Glory" really brought me a very personal touch, and the water lasted for a long time.

This is my first Almodovar movie, and I can't say it's his best because there's no reference, but it led me into a hole, and it felt like a treasure trove.

Childhood, motherhood, childhood love, that painting, love and career...there are so many memories in the movie. It unfolds slowly, the rhythm is neither rushed nor slow, as if an old man confided his sincerity to you, showing the past in front of your eyes, you find some moving in his story, because you can see it in it Some of your own shadows can be about love or family. This is the biggest charm of this movie, you can find out what your life looks like from other people's stories.

There are two points in the movie that moved me the most, one is about mother, and the other is about love.

First is the mother. It can be seen that the mother in the story is a person who is trapped in life. In such a poor age, living in an unsatisfactory house and having endless work, how much she wants her son Salvador to move towards her dreams. She wanted to develop in the direction she wanted, but she didn't get it, and even this became the estrangement between El Salvador and her. In my mother's last moments, El Salvador said, "I'm sorry, I didn't become the child you wanted," and it made waves in my heart. Contrary to the expectations of his beloved, El Salvador chose his own path. In the end, he expressed the guilt that may have been hidden in his heart for many years. This kind of regret between parents and children occurs in too many families.

The second is love. In his childhood, El Salvador saw the naked body of his eldest brother next door, and he fell in love for the first time. When he was old, he went to look for it. He only found a painting made by him for himself. In the painting, he was reading a book. This is a thing of the past. . In his later years, Salvador wrote his love-hate entanglement with his ex into a script and directed a play called "Addiction." At this time, he was battling a disease, and he was addicted to drugs. It's letting go, letting go.

Everyone's past has many regrets and good things, maybe it's the pain that can't be revealed. El Salvador once chose to fall in the painful struggle. He became addicted, but he didn't relieve his worries. Later, he chose to let go, and the reconciliation was not only Those past, and not so good life, this is only a thought.

Almodovar is a director with a strong personal style. The color matching of "Pain and Glory" is very saturated, but not fancy. I recently watched the film "Angel of Death" in which he served as a producer. The director of this film can make a murderer who has been criticized with such charm and arrogance. Maybe there is a shadow of him.

Pain and Glory quotes

  • Salvador Mallo: Life disgusts me like a useless medicine. And it is then when I feel with clear visions how easy it would be to get away from this tedium if I had the simple strength of wanting to really push him away.

  • Federico Delgado: "Love is not enough to save the person you love." It's in your monologue.

Salvador Mallo: Let's not talk about the monologue, it's a very sad text.
