"A Tree of Pears and Begonias" in Mixed Ages

After watching the film "Lolita" (a pear blossom pressing a begonia), I rushed to the library almost immediately to borrow Vladimir Nabokov's original work.
The original book disappointed me quite a bit. The lengthy and expansive articles are mixed with Vladimir's ambiguous mentality.
It's no wonder that even in such an open age, incestuous love between a middle-aged man and a 12-year-old girl's stepdaughter is embarrassing and forbidden.
Therefore, Vladimir is seriously contradictory, and the language becomes blurred and jumps constantly.

The movie just brings clarity and order to the chaotic manuscript.

The film stars JEREMY IRONS, a typical British man. There are two deep nasolabial folds. The eyes are deep. Formerly a drama actor. He has starred in films such as "Kafka", "Chinese Box", "Severely Injured Love", "Mr. Butterfly" and so on. He is best at portraying neurotic and perverted characters, such as "The Lover in Fire" starring Juliet Binoche.
The role of Lolita is said to have been selected from among more than 1,000 teenage actresses. Completely in line with Vladimir's requirements: brown hair, a healthy and soft complexion like honey, with a sinister willful spirit.

Humber, played by JEREMY, is a college teacher and writer. When he was young, he had a love affair with the girl next door to his aunt's house, and had a strong "pedophile". The 12-year-old daughter of the Haze family's widow was infatuated with him, so he married him and became Lolita's stepfather. Humber's "pedophile" is discovered by Haze, and his corrupt Haze is killed by an oncoming car. Humber finally got his wish and fulfilled his wish to be with Lolita justifiably. He travels around the United States with Lolita. The disturbed Lolita falls in love with the middle-aged man he meets in the hotel by chance, and finally escapes from Humber's surveillance with the help of the middle-aged man. Many years later, Humber found Lolita, who was pregnant at this time, and Lolita wanted Humber only for "money".

What makes me despair is not the absence of Lolita, but the absence of Lolita's laughter.

This is the last sentence of the film, when Humber kills the man that Lolita is so obsessed with and so heartbroken by.

The film shows only Humber's fascination with Lolita, not pure "pedophilia", and the original is full of Humber's fascination with children, not just Lolita.
So, just from this point of view, the film does not repeat the strange path of "often the film is not as good as the original". It makes people believe in love rather than lewd "pedophilia".

  • Humbert: From here to that old car you know so well is a stretch of twenty-five paces. Make those twenty-five steps. With me. Now.

Lolita: You're saying you'll give us the money if I go to a motel with you?

Humbert: No, no, no. I mean leave here now, and come live with me. And die with me, and everything with me.

    Lolita: You're crazy.

  • Humbert: What are you eating?

Lolita: It's called a jawbreaker. It's supposed to break your jaw. Want one?
